OK woohoo! Got the darn thing out finally, a friend pulled it out with his needle nose pliers, I had almost given up, and had just thrown it in the trash actually...plate and spike came out without the wick and hat...got it out and fluffed and soaked it in some IPA...there was no wick sticking up above the hat so I pulled it up a bit with tweezers...put it back in the spike from the bottom...got it in now, time to test it out, going to still be wet from the soak, so update later.....fingers crossed...

Congrats Jennie!!! Let me know how it works!

Ok well I got home and it had leaked again...not as much, so I *may* take it out again and redo the wick, maybe I didn't get enough through the hat. Never took that off just pulled what little I could up. Pliers are at work so update tomorrow...LOL
Going to watch Vicky's video again to see if I'm pulling up where it should be. If I can salvage it great, if not, the others are working fine still!

Ok now I see from the video there is no wick at the top, the hat should cover it...now I do want to check it again...think the hat has a hole or isn't in there high enough still...

Hey Jenny. I just had to adjust the wick on two new atty's I received today. I found that the wick works best when it's level with the bottom of the slant in the piercing tube. Just compare it to one of the atty's that you have that works. I used a big paperclip to push it down but I heard you can grab the top with some pointed tweezers and pull it up. Good luck and keep us posted.

I just used my Leatherman pliers and pushed against the spike tube with the other end of the pliers on the outside of the atomizer. Work side to side once, and pow! It's out. If you don't have dentla picks, but have a set of needle-nose pliers, you can do it this way easy. Remember to protect the outside of the atomizer with a cloth or something to prevent scratches.

Thanks alot for explaining to how to use the plier to take the plate out. I'm so happy to find this thread. I was looking at my pliers and was wondering how i'm gonna take that out before reading this thread. I was like there no way I get my pliers in there. hahah I feel so dumb.
I had 3 tank atty, and the 3rd one was leaking, keep constantly getting juice in my mouth. Yesterday i tried to just use a tweezer to see if I can pic up the wick alittle. I didnd't know what I was doing, cuz it was hard to see. And after doing that it was worst, I think I actually push it down some more. It was leaking terribly and had a very very hard draw.

I just took the plate out now, I'm cleaning it first, and then later i might put it back together.

Thanks so much Dougiestyle! I have read numerous references to using needle nose pliers to get it out, but I just couldn't figure out how to grab it, it never even occurred to me to have one side on the outside.

I had been having a really tight draw, with minimal vapor and TH on this atomizer for the last day or two. Honestly I don't know what the problem was, because my wick was in great shape, everything was nice and clean under there. I didn't really do much other than have a look and drop a bit of PG right onto the coil, but it seems to be working fine now. Is it just a last hurrah before it kicks the bucket entirely? Who knows, but even if that's the case, I get a little more use out of it. :D

The method with needlenose pliers works good for me too. And a tip from another member to get the needle plate back in is to stick it onto a tank, slip it in at an angle till it goes in, wiggle it in there a little bit, push down and it will seat, then push down again once and it will push in all the way. I did it on one of my atty's twice so far and it worked in about 2 seconds versus at least 2 minutes trying to push the needle plate back down with tweezers.

I used needlenose pliers as well, but I just yanked the plate out from the needle. I don't think I set it back in all the way, though. The tank doesn't sit flush with the atty anymore, there's a little gap between the two. It's just big enough to put a fingernail in.

I'm glad that I popped that sucker out, though. It gave me a chance to adjust the wick a bit. I never had problems with dry burning or anything, but the lack of flavor was beginning to get boring. I don't know know why, but fiddling with the atty brought quite a bit of flavor out of my juices. I had made a couple batches of juice just for my tank where I had doubled (or more) the flavor, and now that seem a bit too strong. I also noticed that my tank now "burps", kinda like the way a water cooler bubbles, when I tip it to check the liquid level.

Of course, I have no way of proving that any of this has to do with messing with my atty.

used the plier method to remove my needle plate..

I then did an alcohol soak, followed by a few dry burns..

Also, I realized the wicking material was VERY dirty and gunky. I took a lighter (took me about 20 minutes to find one..lol) and actually held the wicking material to the flame. I found a lot of crackling and burning at first. Then it just seemed to heat up the material and it was actually much cleaner and whiter after I had burnt some of the gunk off of the wick.

I then also pulled the wick down a bit (towards the atomizer) as I am wicking fine..but having a bit of flavor lacking with these attys after a few weeks. Hopefully the thorough cleaning and wick adjustment will do the trick.

I'll post back with how they work tomorrow.

If you've gotten this far with them, you might as well get some wicking material to replace them when needed. I got some silica rope from McMaster-Carr. Others have used it on these with good results. I was told if they produce a lot of vapor but the flavor is lacking, the wick is dirty or needs to be replaced. Here's the link. Get #3 in 3/8 inch. One foot is about 3 bucks or so. It's heat resistant to 2300 degrees. McMaster-Carr

I'm still having a problem understanding how to do it with pliers.

I don't recommend doing it with pliers. If you damage the outer needle surface you will cause your tanks to wear out and leak.

Read my Wick Mod thread and you can see the tool I use to pull it out from the side.

I saw that and it's excellent. I don't have a grider to fashion a tool to remove the plate. Is there a way to remove the plate using something I may have at home?

Thanks

Any chance you have a steel crochet hook? One of the smaller sizes should work fine. Or maybe I'm the only one that has those lying around??
