My eGo arrived today and after about 15 minutes with it... WOW! Without even mentioning the reputed battery life (which I have yet to discover), this device stands on its own... A true marvel!

A little background... I have been vaping for approximately one year and have owned a Prodigy v1 (510)(V2 on order), Protege (510&801), 2 Janty Sticks (801), a PS Passthrough, 5 mega 510s, 15 standard 510s, Blu and Smoking Everywhere. I use PVs like pacifiers, all day, everyday. Even at work, I rarely go an hour without vaping.

First impressions. Wow!

This thing came QUICK!
As always, Janty did well with super fast shipping, especially considering the New Year and new product. I ordered on Jan 1, it shipped the next Business day (Jan 4) arrived today (Jan 7). While this normally would not be *exceptional*, I feel it was very fast considering it was on its way to me by 2pm Monday after a holiday weekend.

This thing is WELL PACKAGED!
Similar to receiving my Janty Stick, 510 starter kits, Blu or Smoking Everywhere, although the eGo's packaging seems "higher end" with a slide out tray, foil embossing and nice, high end graphic design on the box.

This thing is TINY
Similar to when I first saw my Protege, although the eGo is *significantly* thinner AND shorter. This is by far, my smallest mod! Only slightly larger than a standard 510, it feels MUCH smaller than a mega 510.

This thing looks and feels PROFESSIONALLY MANUFACTURED!
Similar to when I first saw my Janty Stick, although the eGo is texturized metal instead of plastic. This is the type of device where you can tell that it has been mass produced by a large and capable facility. Tight tolerances? I'd say ZERO tolerances. It is manufactured flawlessly. I never once had any doubt that it would work right out of the box.

This thing is SLEEK AND CLASSY!
This is my first eCig that is seriously attractive! People wont cower in fear that my pipe bomb might blow up the building! Though the Stick is a solid performer and was my primary device for quite awhile, it still got me the "Glad it works for you, I wouldn't be caught dead sucking on that thing in public" comments from time to time! =)

Now to charge it up! Plugged the charger into the wall outlet, attached the USB cable, screwed in the battery... It just hangs there, the cable isn't even long enough for it to sit on the floor from 18" up. I don't mind this a bit. In fact, I like it. Less space in my suitcase, backpack, whatever for a charger. My Puresmoker Passthrough had a 6' cord that was about as thick as a 510 atty. Great if you like to wander 6' from your computer, but not so much if you keep a Kensington USB power pack or your computer is a laptop that sits on your lap. I felt like I was carrying around a lasso for the whole week that I kept it. I like short cords!

The batteries sent were nearly fully charged, and the light turned green within 5 minutes. I am always happy when I see this. Often, mods come with batteries still in plastic and you have to wait 6-8 hours for the first charge. All while staring at the device hoping it's all it has been hyped to be! Not the case with the eGo. Pleasantly surprised!

eGo Time! :pop:
I put in a fresh battery, topped off the cart (blue foam mod) with 11mg Riskee Yuice cut 50% with glycerine and took one last puff before unscrewing the 510 from my Protege (my recent ex-primary) and putting it onto the eGo... This was to be a direct comparison! The first drag from the eGo was warm and smooth, with more flavor, but a hint less throat hit than my Protege. I had to start this review! I have been taking my time, writing this for about 45 minutes already, contently puffing away at the eGo, editing and rewording...

The first 5 minutes or so were quite intense. Great gobs of flavor, extremely warm and tasty. Loads of vapor. After about 20-30 puffs, the vapor seemed *slightly* less warm, the flavors not *as* bright as they did on the first puff. The eGo is now in "Maintenance" mode (as I like to call it).

I am not an electrician nor engineer, but ALL eCigs seem to have SOME amount of voltage drop right at the beginning after putting on a freshly charged battery. For a 510, this is the famous "First Hit", and for nearly ALL ecigs, it only lasts 1-5 hits for me. After that, they seem to enter "Maintenance" and stay stable (at least perceivably) until slightly before the battery dies (depending on ecig model). So, for 20-30 drags (5 minutes) of the most AMAZING, rich vapor the device can possibly produce... The eGo, seems to be on par with the Protege, Prodigy and Stick.

So for about 40 minutes or so now, I have been happily vaping away in maintenance mode enjoying some of the best flavor and nicest warm vapor from any 3.7. I have switched back to the Protege for a minute to try and compare... The Protege seems "hotter", more throat hit, and slightly... burnt after comparing to the eGo. The Protege seems to give a better "hit", but the eGo seems to give a better experience. Vapor production is nearly identical, with a slight edge going to the Protege. I find that with the Protege, 1 or 2 hits is sufficient, I can put it down and be satisfied for a bit... The eGo leaves me wanting more, not more from it... More OF it!

So that's about it in a nutshell... I love my Protege! It gets the job done, works well (after having to send it back... DOA), and satisfies! However, I am IN love with my eGo. If you want a "hit" or "rush" or need a quick "fix", the Protege or any 6v mod will give it. If you want to sit, relax and chain vape until your heart is content... The eGo is HIGHLY recommended!

Battery life has yet to be seen, but I trust the other reviewer's experiences and will post back my findings. The one small issue I have is the build up of liquid inside the atomizer housing. After an hour, there are only a couple small drops. I leak a little with EVERY device I have ever used. With a 510 it ends up running down the side, onto my hands. On the Stick, it ended up leaking out of the seam and, months later, out of the USB port (most problematic!). On the Protege and Prodigy, it ends up in the "well" at the top. Everything in the eGo seems extremely well built, and I have little to no concern of it causing problems like it did with the Stick. A little cleaning of the atomizer housing from time to time seems like it will be sufficient.

No device is perfect, but this one is the closest I have found to meet my needs. At first I only cared about "it needs to look like a cigarette", then "it needs to perform, I don't care if I look like the Unabomber"... Now I have a great looking PV that works amazingly well... Time will tell how well she holds up but, at least for now, I have extremely high hopes!

I apologize for the terrible blurriness but the camera's battery is dead and this is the best I could get with my phone without some sort of tripod! The sticks should arrive tomorrow and I will snap a better photo with one of them!

From left to right: A pen (for reference!), 510 with mega battery, Protege with 510 adapter, 801 atty and adapter for Protege, eGo, standard 510. Hope this gives you a bit of an idea!

Nice review Munson... thanks.

Since you already own a Stick, how would you compare vapor and throat hit between the two? Is your Stick straight 801/302 or do you have a 510 adapter on it?

Reason I ask is that I have a V2 Stick now and a V3 on order. I'm thinking about an eGo but I figure a Stick with a 510 adapter and 500mAh 10440 should be pretty comparable to the eGo. Granted - it's not as attractive maybe but at least I'm not locked into proprietary batteries. The only thing I didn't like about the Stick was the switch button - which they've supposedly fixed.

I know you asked this of Munson, but I'd like to answer as well. I own both the v1 & v2 Janty Stick as well as the eGo. The JS was my primary device. Like most units, it suffered from a drop in performance as the 10440 batt became depleted. The big difference with the eGo is that there is no degredation in performance from the time the fully charged battery is attached until it goes dead. In other words, the first hit is the same as the last. I still really like the JS, and at fully charged, peak performance, it is the equal of the eGo, the difference lies in what happens at 1+ hours............. This is what makes the eGo in a league by itself.

Elendil, thanks for the reply.

Good point about performance degredation. Since I started using e-cigs I wondered about the lithium-ion technology. My 3-year old Milwaukee V-28 cordless tools do the same thing: run full-throttle until dead. I've often wondered why current li-ion e-cig batteries don't do the same....

I think 7 hours is at the very lowest end of people's battery life experience. I am able to use it for over 8 but not past 8.5. On the other hand my wife (whose device I have to keep reminding myself this really is) has been able to go for two days and finally swapped the battery on the second night even though it wasn't dead yet.

The thing I'm most happy about is that the eGo gives me a model to suggest to people who are new to vaping. I've always run into the "I want it to look like a cigarette" complaint before so I end up buying for them or suggesting they buy something that I know will not fill their needs but will at least get them committed enough to buy a mod later. Now I can suggest the eGo and know that it will remain useful even after they start dabbling with other mods, or it may just be all they ever need if they aren't gadget people.

Absolutely! This is the best beginner ecig ever, and I am not even a beginner! It just works and is about as hassle free as you are currently going to find. The review was done shortly after it arrived, so it left out the battery information. I would agree with everything everyone has posted, however I seem to notice that the first few drags straight off the charger are the best. I am currently on my 3rd swap but I only let it die once. It finally died around the 9 hour mark. I swapped a new one this morning, just because I was heading out. I didn't bother bringing the spare, just a little juice!

Has anyone heard what extra batteries for the eGo will cost? I'm assuming they'd have to be replaced periodically and would not be cheap seeing as the eGo set with two batteries is $84.95.

Janty hasn't disclosed price yet, but they have indicated that each batt could be recharged 200 times...............The batts are covered by a 6 month warranty in the even of premature failue.

Great review. I have been considering a mod for some time but the size always stopped me from making the switch. Now with the eGo it is time to upgrade.

I wonder if some one can answer a couple of questions for me.

The Janty site indicates that the batt is 600 mah and the reviews indicate battery life in excess of 10+ hours. How is this even possible with a 600 mah batt? I could see 3 hours if you were hitting it heavy but 10+ hours - even at moderate vaping seems hard to believe. Is Janty using new battery technology that they are not disclosing?

I assume that it uses 510 attys?

Will they ship to Canada?

Thanks to all!

larktdl, You'll probably have better luck posting technical questions directly at the Jany Supplier Forum here at ECF. Mik and the other guys at Janty are great at keep in touch with everyone there.

It is a 510 connection but some people have had luck with adapters for 901s.

I have no idea why, but I can tell you that the 600mAh battery on the eGo lasts almost exactly as long as the 900mAh battery in my Protege. I get about 8 hours on the eGo and about 8.5 on the Protege. Each person is going to get a different amount of time due to the way they vape but, despite the best efforts of my elementary school teachers, I can tell you that 600 = 900.

The best I can tell you is this: The 600 maH on the ego appears to be a "real" 600 maH. The problem with many of the "Mod" batts that you get from deal extreme, battery junction, etc (usually trustfire or tenergy brands for example) is that the maH rating is exaggerated. The are batts out there with a 3000 maH rating but it is probably closer to 2000............

As someone who is a very heavy vaper and who owns an ego, it that I can say that I get 8-10 hours every time...No exaggeration. If anyone wants a compact cig with world class performance, this is the real deal.

Thanks for the reply NoidNIL. I have submitted an e-mail inquiry to Jany in regards to some of my questions.
Great info Elendil. Thanks for clearing up the mah battery mystery.
Pretty sure that I will be ordering the eGo in the very near future.
