As the title says, I keep getting a burnt taste/dry-hits when I'm building my KFL+ clone by EhPro.

I'm not new to rebuildables at all, but the KFL+ has me stumped.

I've watched numerous videos, but I can't seem to get it right for some reason.

Basically, I build it, get around 3 or 4 good clean toots off of it, then...burnt taste.

I'm using cotton with a 1.5ohm microcoil. I'm not blocking the channels at all. I've heard of this navy nest build, but I do not like silica at all.

Any help would be great.

Do you see any little bubbles rising up the sides after a good hard toot?

When you filled it, did you cover the air hole?

When you filled it, did you stop before all the way full to leave some air in there so it can pressurize the system?

Have you tried "primer pulls" -- covering the air intake while taking a short draw then uncovering it just at the end?

Well then. I guess your wick is the problem. Unless you've got an air leak somewhere, which you can check by doing a primer pull -- if you get air flow (while pulling) then one of your O-rings isn't sealing properly. Otherwise, you've either got too much wick so it's clogging up your juice channels or too little so the juice isn't feeding it fully/properly. At this point, pictures would be helpful to at least rule out various wicking problems.

As far as covering the airhole when filling, I do this to maintain a bit of positive pressure in the bottom half of the air intake system (from hole to the coil chamber) which helps to keep juice from flooding in while filling or re-filling.

Okay, I'll get some pictures taken when I get home from work.

Also, no, there is no airleaks. That was the first thing I checked.

I'm guessing it has something to do with my coil/wick, but after about 10 or so builds...idk.

I used a drimmel to make a couple of indentions in the corner of the L shape on the juice channels to allow more juice to come up if necessary...but that still didn't work.

Mine is doing the same damn thing. When filling from the bottom, you shouldn't have to cover the air hole right?

Even though the juice is not coming directly into contact with the channels that lead into the coil chamber, that flow of juice is pushing on the air in the tank. That air has to go somewhere, and if it isn't bubbling back into your juice bottle or out the fill hole because you've inadvertently sealed it with your bottle's tip, then it can force juice upwards into the chamber. The same thing can happen when you close up the tank after filling/re-filling with the fill screw.

There is also that inner o-ring atop the chamber cap-tube which must be seated properly into the topcap in order for the pressurized system to be well established. It wouldn't necessarily be apparent when doing primer pulls, but you would likely get intermittent flooding along with dry hits I think, were that o-ring not in place and intact.

That O-Ring seemed just fine too. A little too tight actually lol

The thing works, looks cool, just have to prime it. But all my future builds are going to be on the trusty AGA T2. This thing is just too much trouble. I like it, but after like 10+ hours fiddling with this thing, I'm tapping out. I'll still use it, just have to prime it is all. Prime it and you get 3+ hits no problem. I've checked everything on mine. Replaced all the orings, everything looks ok. It's either not a good design, or I got a bum unit. Mine came with the air allen screw pre-stripped. No extra cost for the pre stripping.

I went through a point at the beginning of my Kayfun clone ownership where I was wondering if it was going to the shelf.

Once I figured out the microcoil with a cotton wick that moves freely through the coils, I bought a Russian 91 as well and have used nothing else since except a dripper.

For me, the secret was the right amount of cotton pulled through the chimney, cut a little above the chimney, then tucked gently down the sides.

I hope it works out for you as I feel there is no better vape

I'll give that method a shot. Thanks!

I got an original Kayfun Lite+ and loved it so much that I got a R91 and an EHpro clone too. At first I had trouble getting a 2mm coil working without dry hits. I use a 2.5mm coil and they all wick perfectly. Endless chain vape of 100% VG. I even use VG based flavorings and undiluted VG, so my liquid is very thick.

1) I use 2.5mm coils. Don't block the air channels, but if that doesn't work try a bigger coil. You can cut extra wick to the length of the coil so it doesn't tuck into the liquid channels. Air needs to be able to reach the channels for the vacuum to work properly, and it's just easier for it if it doesn't have to go through a bunch of liquid and wick.

2) The wick must go all the way to the bottom of the deck right next to the liquid channels.

3) Lower your volts, increase coil resistance, or try a different flavor. The Kayfun amplifies taste. It's possible that you're just running it too hot and burning your liquid. You may have never noticed before because you just couldn't taste it on other tanks.

4) Don't twist your cotton, I just lightly pat it down and pull just enough of it through the coil so that it goes through without having to hold the coil in place. It doesn't fall out, but will move easily through the coil when tension is applied.

5) Get in there and clean the oil out of it. They all have residual oil that will taste like a burnt/dry hit when you get them, even the genuine KFL+. It's hard to get out and takes a good amount of cleaning to get it off.

I can see the liquid channels, so I know they're not blocked.

Go_base.jpg

The wick goes all the way to the base by the liquid channels.

Might want to make sure that not too much of the wick touches the upper deck, otherwise you may get flooding.

Good point.
I vape almost exclusively AVE juice at 100vg which is where the Kayfun shines in my opinion.

Air flow is crucial as well as proper wicking.

For me, the method of cutting the cotton wick above the chimney, loosening it up a little, then tucking it down the sides was the game changer
