So my regulated VW mod dies on me while I was away for Thanksgiving. Desperate for a vape, I (grudgingly) ended up picking the cheapest mech mod available in the store since I didn't like any of their regulated devices and had to get something. This happened to be an EHPro "Manhattan" mod. I've never been a fan of mech mods, but this thing hits surprisingly well and voltage drop off isn't too bad when the battery starts getting low. I think my issue in the past with mech mods was from not having used the right one. I can't believe the difference in the vape with this mod from other mech mods I've tried. While far from perfect, it's got it where it counts.

In the past, I've criticized mech mods and praised regulated VW mods. Now I'm here to eat crow. I'm tired of high powered VW mods burning themselves out in a month (happened twice with brand new Chinese mods in the last two months) and if my Cyber Monday Vaporshark rDNA 40 does not last, I will be giving up on regulated mods and will start searching for the perfect mech.

Mechs, especially clones, have become increasingly well made. It used to be you had to spend 2 - $300 for a nice vape but things have changed. Although I don't own clones I've tried them and a few people I know swear that some of the clones are just as good as their authentic counter part. EHpro and infinite make some nice clones, they've come a long way. I hear vaporshark makes a good vv mod though so you might be waiting for awhile

I'm sorry to hear that your VV/VW mods keep failing. No electronics to fail is one of the reasons why I prefer mechanical mods. There's nothing wrong with regulated devices and I have a few, but since I've found a good wattage range that satisfies me (10.5W - 13.5W with a 1.3ohm coil) I'm very happy with my mechanicals. I've found the perfect mechanical mod for me (GP Paps LUX v3 in 18350 mode) and fortunately my desire to purchase new devices has waned.

What else croaked in addition to your BEC Pro?

I'm an equal opportunity vaper. My regulated boxes have been rock solid so far (IPV2, Sig100, VS rDNA30). But, if I'm being honest with myself, I prefer using my mechs. The sheer simplicity is quite endearing. And while I can't "regulate" them on the fly, having more than one allows me to have heavy hitter builds and others which are a bit more tame. I've got some mods incoming and when everything arrives, I'll have four regulated boxes and five mechs.

My Cloupor ZNA 50 died on a few hours before Thanksgiving. I do chain vape at 37 watts so perhaps that didn't help (the BEC died the first time I pushed 30 watts), but still, the unit should not allow you to do something that will kill it.

You can't go wrong with Eh pro's manhattan, its a really well made clone, actually if you ever get the chance get an EHPRO overdose change the spring out with a good and thick spring from ACE HARDWARE (for some reason ace has a whole plethora of springs to choose from).
But atm I'm using a smpl copper clone and I'm really enjoying it over my sigelei 100w and my ipv2 both of which I selectively use, sig while driving or travelling with the ipv2 paired with an atlantis.

I think I speak for most of the mech mod loyalists when I say "I told you so." Seriously though, if you're looking for raw reliable performance in the smallest possible package you'll be hard pressed to beat a well designed mech mod, there's got to be some reason I own over a dozen of these things!

Yeah! What he (or she) said ;)

Just don't press the switch so hard lol. The way the manhattan is designed, if the switch contact is tight and there is no battery rattle, the only way the bottom of your battery would be dented is from continuing to apply increasing pressure after the switch has made contact.

Check to make sure the switch contact is tight, tho.

And congratulations on your mech purchase! :toast:

It seems like my Manhattan clone seems to somewhat "dent" the bottom of the battery. Can I fix this by adjusting the switch or is it just something I have to live with? Will that damage the battery so it can no longer function or becomes a safety hazard?
Run current through mod / battery. Battery / mod gets hot. Both made of metal. Metal becomes pliable under heat. Press too hard, battery tops "dent". This is physics. Stop heating it so much / pressing too hard

I just bought a Ameraclone Fuhattan, and it put a tiny dent(impression) in the bottom of my battery as well. It's set up with a Kanger Subtank Mini (Had to put in the smaller firing pin in the mod) and a Button Top Efest 35A. It made the tiny dent after a few puffs, wasnt pushing hard on it. I'm thinking it may be because the button top battery is too long? I'm hoping so, I'll find out Saturday when my 15 (Flat Top Sony's Samsungs and LG's) Batteries i ordered from RTD Vapor arrive!

Regulated and mechs have their uses, I use them both pretty much every day. Mechs are more portable, durable, easier to maintain and generally more stylish. But you can't beat the regulated ability to get a perfect hit every time and dial in your wattage. There are a lot of bad reports around the internet about the bec pro and the cloupor mods dying, I'd go with the sigelei's, ipv's and vaporsharks imo.

Dont let the dna fanboys fool ya, evolve nakes a great product, but has a pretty good failure rate as well. The problems even killed there own mod the darwin. They got tired of reparing them and stopped making them. Several reports now of wacked screens and wrong information in the display with the latest chips. And this is not new

Doest matter how nice the case is if you have to send a mod off to be fixed from poor quality control in the chips.

My Vaporshark died just as fast as my higher powered and much cheaper Chinese mods. I never had an issue with the older generation of VV/VW mods, but now I think I am done with regulated. They are way too fragile now.
