Interesting.. just curious, have you tried the hollow core Ekowool?
If I take the cotton core out. Then it will be hollow. Maybe I'll try it out when I do my next build.
The hollow core Ekowool has been wicking perfectly for me but keep in mind that I've been using the Mr. Krinkle Method along with it.
You could also try the MrKrinkle method with the cotton core. Wicking might not be a problem with that setup.
I really like the Ekowool in my Odysseus. Im using the simple old style 2mm down the side channels with short 1mm topper. Wicks great, tastes great. I always boil by wick first out of habit. Seems Todd of Todds Reviews is doing the same thing.
I like the Ekowool over even the good vaporbase wick only for the fact that it is even cleaner tasting and stays intact so much longer. No fraying or wearing as fast. I recently got some of the 1.5 mm Ekowool and it seems to fit even better in the channels than the 2mm hollow Ekowool. It might be better for thicker VG heavy juice. I have it set up and ready to go when I switch over to one of my heavy juices.
I keep my set ups really simple and relatively mid resistance at 1.8 to 2.1 ohms set with a kick at 8 watts.

They only activate through a reference. So you have to know somebody on vaporwall that can vouch for you. I registered like 2 months ago and after multiple emails... I sent them a message on facebook and they finally told me about the reference thing. Its because they have a lot of scammers... or use to I dont know.
I'm going to try the 1.5mm next time around, I'm not messing with this first setup using 2mm because it is working perfectly through the first 3 tanks of VCV Mewlew's Magic, Maha Ras and Ahlusion Grape Vine. I can't get dry hits until long after the tank is bone dry, it rips through every last drop and even then, it the first dry hits are so subtle, you know you need to refill long before any real unpleasantness occurs.
How wide do you have the juice control open when using the MrKrinkle Method?
It depends on the thickness of the e-liquid that you use and this is the guideline I follow but not always,
- If it is not thick at all (watery or CC House Blend as a reference), 1 full turn.
- If it is moderately thick (HHV Serendipity or HHV Dragon's Fire), 2 to 3 full turns.
- If it is a thick juice (AVE Boba's Bounty), 3 to 4 full turns.
It depends really, sometimes 2 full turns will be good for any thickness. Oh yea, I forgot to mention that I'm using a Penelope.

Does anyone have a photo of the MrKrinkle method setup on an Ithaka? I'm going to try it tonight or tomorrow night when I rebuild.. I'm just trying to think how the top wick will sit.. The ends have to be in the ceramic channels right? Obviously not down the entire channel but it should be in the slots correct? I'm just worried that the top wick will sit too high being laid on top of the first wick and coil.
Any tips on that?

I can't take a photo now. But if you take the wicks and lay them across, leave yourself a couple mm on each end to adjust. Put the BF ring on, assemble the bottom normally. Then take nail clippers or find scissors and trip right at the edge where the wick would drop into the channel. the wires drop them snug but don't pull hard to stretch the coils. Connect neg, then pos as normal. To make it easier to wrap if you're using eko, stick a needle the long way through the center of the eko since it collapses easier.
Now....with that said, I will be trying a Hybrid (wife actually tried this and swears by it. It's two wicks (cross X or run side by side if single coil). Where the wires drop into the channels leave the wick long (protects the wire and avoid the 'potential' short. Where the channels have no wire (if not a dual), cut the wick MrKrinkle style. You will get the same wicking of juice in the channels, but also have some on the wick as normal. This process is to "protect" the single coil. If you do duals, you probably would just do MrKrinkle all the way.
If it wasn't so late, I'd tear it down and take a couple of pics. I'm using dual coil full MrKrinkle at about 1ohm final read. Jojo is running the hybrid. She does single coils at about 1.3ohms.

I think my juice is too thin for the MrKrinkle method. I wrapped cotton core eko with some ribbon wire I just got today-single coil/2 wick at .9 ohms and the flavor is fantastic but I'm getting lots of gurgling and kind of a tight draw. When the wick's not over saturated the vape is amazing, so next time I'll try a normal build. Loving the ribbon wire...didn't take long at all to break in. It's much easier to weld too!
You close that MP? Close it, vape it off, and when needed BARELY open it. At least until you rebuild again.

I don't know for sure as to why you're getting the gurgling. Is this with the Penelope? Maybe the cotton core is causing it to be oversaturated as I have had 1 minor flooding/gurgling with the hollow core Ekowool, and that is with a pretty thin juice. Make sure you are not opening the juice control too much, maybe just a half turn should be good. Some more detail would make it easier to pin point the problem, such as the size of the wick.
Aside from that, how is the ribbon wire compared to the regular wires? Better flavor? Throat hit? and how is the cloud production?
Alright guys. My opinion has changed about Ekowool. Thanks to dokebilee about using the MrKrinkle method in the Penelope. It now wicks and vapes like a dream.
I never thought about not putting the wicks down the channel.
I am using the Ekowool with the cotton core. (If you read my entire last post you would know.)
I use two wicks (of 3mm each) together on the coil. I also use a 1/8 syringe needle in between the Ekowool when wrapping the coil. For me three wick on top of the Penelope causes the air draw to be too tight.
Many thanks for mentioning the MrKrinkle method. This just might be my new set up.
For me with using the Penelope...if you use Ekowool down the channels and not using the MrKrinke method then it will fail.
I was probably to liberal with the juice control. This morning the gurgling is almost completely gone so I'll run another tank (that 1st one went fast lol!) before I decide to build again. So far, keep in mind I just got it yesterday, I really like the ribbon wire. Throat hit and vapor production seems to be about the same as round but the flavor is better and if I can get longevity like gtbb is getting then ribbon will definitely be the wire of choice. I dream of keeping a good build for a couple of weeks
Here you go sub. This is after one tank so it's just getting seasoned. It's a single coil/two wick (as you can see lol). Dual coil MrKrinkle won't protrude anymore than a normal dual and you have coil height adjustability if you need it.
I think I'll try a dual now on my other Ithaka....want to get more heating surface.
