Frustrating day today, the coil I made yesterday with the Ekowool decided to do the same thing as the coil I made a few days ago with the German-made silica wick. Both of them gave one last burnt vape and then the ohm jumped to around 3-4 ohms. Anyone know what is going on here? The NR silver wire on the metal channel is not touching the mouthpiece at all, it is sitting against the metal channel. Is there a short going on somewhere that I don't know? I'm puzzled as to why this is happening at the moment. The only difference is that my unused silver wire is starting to change color, like how it normally corrodes but I doubt that is the issue.

I made another coil just now, Ekowool, dual coil, and Mr. Krinkle. I really do hope that it was just two really bad coils that I made.

Nope, the button did not get hot at all when it happened.
Damn, well I hope someone else here can help ya.. that's gotta be frustrating...

I've been trying to get silica through my ekowool and I just cannot get it through without fraying the ekowool or just crumbling the silica... I've got a pretty thick blunt needle (for syringes) through the ekowool which I think is the start.. and I can get maybe a strand or 2 of silica through that (then I can pull the needle out, leaving the silica) - but I don't think that's nearly enough... hmm.. need to think of a good way to do this without crumbling the silica.. that I think is the hardest part.. especially because I am torching the silica before putting it into the ekowool (I don't want to torch the ekowool really) so the silica is more fragile.

Not sure how much better a sewing needle will work either, but I'll give it a shot.. the wire method didn't work, it ended up just slicing through the silica.. I'm gonna keep brainstorming.. the harder it is to get this silica through the ekowool the more I want to try it!

Doke friend, I think it is the silver. Silver is known to cause problems on high heat. Your connection is getting loose for sure. If you are using a welder don't. If you are twisring, make your twists bigger and more sturdy. If you have nickel it is better.

I'm fed up with ekowool across channels. It is dry as hell and then flooding as hell. I will try tomorrow inserting cotton hemp in ekowool. Maybe I get luckier than subver. BTW sub did you cut a small piece of ekowool before trying to insert the silica? I guess a small portion would be easy to get through.

My ekowool in channels has actually been pretty good lately.. not sure what happened! I'm still vaping on it with no issues, for about 24 hours or so now.

And yeah.. so far I got a 3 strand silica wick into the ekowool... it's a bit frayed up but it's a start!!

I think this alone would even be pretty good! I'm gonna try to get at least a 4 or 5er next time. I think I will also cut the ekowool a little larger than normal and then cut the frays off after.. I know the frays probably don't matter much but it just looks so nice when it's compact and intact!

Guys, I have a question. Why do you want to use ekowool together with silica? If ekowool isnt vape ok then it doesnt, so keep using silica. Why do you bother yourself so much for only 2-3 more days of good vape? (If you find a way to make it work at the end). I mean that if ekowool was a really strong material then it would worth it but it seems that its not.

I am just asking, so dont throw me stones :D

Well for me with liquids I use, I am hoping ekowool will not gunk up at the coil. I realized that I can make it very white with dry burning something that I couldn't with silica. However since it is problematic in wicking for me, that is why I am trying to combine both. We should send you some of the liquids we Vape. Literally I can make the silica unusable in 1 day :D

3 strands that sums up to what? Like 1.5mm? I think 2mm or 2.5mm would be perfect.

Yeah you're right, it's about 1.5mm.. I'm tempted to rebuild my device tonight I'm just afraid of losing any juice because I've only got a little bit left, not sure if my other batch is steeped properly yet! I'll probably wrap the coils and stuff though, to just get it ready. My ekowool build is actually still going strong! I may as well just keep it rocking. Then again I won't have any time tomorrow to build a new coil, so I don't know yet haha! I wish I had a second Ithaka!

Successfully got 4 strand wicks through the ekowool (1.75mm) Don't think I can fit 5 strands with my method, though... it can probably fit IN the ekowool, it's just a matter of getting it through. If anyone comes up with a better idea please let me know!

I'm gonna trim the ekowool down a bit as well, cut like MrKrinkle.

Basically, I took a 14 gauge blunt needle and put it through the ekowool, took my silica wick and twisted it tight while wrapping scotch tape around the tip (think of the end of a shoelace), stuck it into the end of the needle (doesn't have to go all the way through. you can even just stick the tip in [har har] and tape THAT to the blunt needle) and pulled the ekowool over the wick.

Wasn't too big of a pain in the .... really. Not sure if I have time now to even rebuild my Ithaka tonight.. but there you have it!
Will update more when I get there :)

edit: wait, I might be able to fit 5 strand... I'm gonna try haha. That will give 2.2mm

Edit2: yup I got 5 through.. Woohoo.. It's quick and easy now!

try this sub

tape the end of your silica, then put a blunt needle in the end of the tape. Use the needle to push the silica through the eko. As your are pushing the silica with one hand, grab the eko an inch or two from the end you're threading and apply opposite pressure towards the silica. This will open up the eko. Regrip every couple of inches to continue...you're only limited to the length of your needle

edit: doh lol! just saw your post

the problem with pulling the eko is that it constricts when you pull...expands when you push

Yeah exactly, it's like a chinese finger trap! It works better when you push from the opposite end. I think I will order more 2.5mm silica because I don't think I will have any problem fitting that through the ekowool... I only have 3.5mm silica left. I think this 2.2mm inner silica will work out pretty nice, though! Can't wait to build it.. maybe later on I'll taste my other DIY juice batch and if it's good to go I'll rebuild.. I just hate to lose all the juice in the wick when I'm low!

Looks like I'll have to get another Ithaka soon!

Because we are STUPID and don't learn our lessons too well. I keep trying, keep getting dry hits, then set it up with silica and it vapes good.

Like I said I'll speak for me. S T U P I D. I must enjoy punishment.

Oh aal, I can trash a coil in 1-2 days easily. And if I actually vape it instead of looking at it, it may be less.
