The Japanese cotton pads (Ko Gen Do, Muji, etc.) are made of thin, layered squares of cotton. The thin, outermost layers - top and bottom - have an "ironed" appearance, and seem to hold together a little better than the "in-between" layers. These thin, outer layers can usually be carefully peeled off the pad, and work fairly well as the "surround" of the rebuilt coil. I used to use 2 wraps of the "skin" as the surround.

However, I've taken to splitting a pad in half (1/2 thickness) and using a strip of that as the surround, with the "ironed" outer layer facing out toward the outer barrel. Once around the inner barrel. This seems to deliver juice to the wick more efficiently than double wraps of the "skin".

The cotton fibers in the Japanese cotton pads all run in the same direction (unlike the fibers in cotton balls). This characteristic makes it great wicking material, imo, because eliquid flows very well between the cotton fibers. Always cut the pad in the same direction as the fibers - I.e. with the grain, not across it.

You are welcome!
I may have kicked off rebuilding these coils, but there are a lot of folks on here a whole hell of a lot better at it than me!
And they have excellent tips and advice.
Cheech, you are the master coiler!! Everything I know and do I learned from watching you!!

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
I know @LynnNC coils while watching movies...way beyond my skill level!:thumb:
That's BS and you know it!! o_O The people who know me away from this forum will tell you that I can't just sit! My hands have to be busy doing something. Whether it's coiling, or knitting, cross stitching or crocheting, my hands can not be idle!!:lol:

It is truly a misnomer, I am truly clueless in regards to most coiling tricks. I am not being modest!
I don't use Japanese cotton, tension my coils, nor space them...I throw them together and vape.
That's why I stress, "If I can do them, anyone can!" And you will get great results!
It's just the first one is a pain!

The GS Air coil is nothing but a Protank coil on steroids.
I have heard the others on here talk about coils they have made that blow my mind! (Pretty easy to do with my pea brain)
Luv ya Lynn, but you could out coil me any day of the week!

I just made my first build on my new Kayfun Lite V2 plus clone, and I used KGD cotton. That stuff is the wispiest cotton I've used, inadvertantly pulled apart my first cut of it, did ok on my second, but I sure need practice haha. It vaped great though, I didn't taste the cotton like I did the cotton pads I picked up at Madvapes when I built my subtank mini. I forgot to take pics of my KFL V2 coil build, but here's the tank, I love the flavor of this thing!

Congratulations!

So how does your Kayfun compare to the Subtank mini?

Congratulations!

So how does your Kayfun compare to the Subtank mini?
The Subtank mini has great flavor with the 1.2 ohm Vertical cotton coilss and the RBA (but spitted a bit at times), not so good with the 1.5 ohm horizontal coils which were terrible to me, not sure if i got a bad batch or old or what (they were authentic, I verified them). The Kayfun Lite V2 clone has AMAZING flavor. How's that? haha. I probably won't pick up the Subtank mini again unless I get bored and have plenty of time on my hands to continue to try to figure out why I get juice leaking out the air hole after the second day when vaping 70pg/30vg juice, at 12W (the minimum on the stock coils, but I get leaks on the deck as well). Give me a few days with the KFL V2, I am sure I will have to learn more about wicking it, etc., but my first build has the best flavor, and its vaping smooth at 6W. That's the lowest power I have ever vaped at since ego style things :D

With that thin of a liquid, you have to add more wicking to stop the leaks. I use too much so I get dry hits a lot. I've never had success using Japanese cotton to wick an ST Mini.
