Let me tell you the biggest problem I was having with rebuilding the 1.2s. I was winding the coil and then then torching it while compressed in needle nose tips. That made the coil pretty short and when I wrapped it with koh gen do wet with pg/vg it was hard to keep the cotton from folding over the ends and reducing air flow. I think if a spaced coil were used, making it longer, it would be easier to wrap.
The TC coils come with even bigger holes in the pin. I rewound one of those and had good success, but that was still with the compressed coil. Also have a look at what they wrap the coil with. It doesn't look like koh gen do. It has more of a felt look. That material could probably be cleaned and reused a couple of times. So what I think would make rebuilding them easier would be a different material to wrap them with. Maybe the Assured pads
@Cheechako uses in his rebuilds. My Dollar Tree was out of stock on those so I haven't laid eyes on them to know what they look like. For a better look at what's in there in a stock coil, pop off the top, pull the pin and the insulator and with tweezers gently work all that out the top. You can then unwind the wrap and get a good look at how the coil is built. I hope this helps. I haven't had time to work on getting better at it lately.
The last coil I rebuilt I did a 2 mm dia coil. At least I think I did. It has been a while.
