I looked up the Aspire K1 tank, I rebuilt some for a friend. You are right, they are almost exactly like a smaller
GS Air standard coil. I recoiled it to a horizontal coil just like the Air. The recipient of the coil wasn't too crazy
about them as they felt it was too warm of a vape. I found the vertical coil in that one to be a bit of a pain too. :)
I like the warmer vapor myself, really rocking some Berry Bomb from Vape Moar right now on a recoiled .41 ohm Ti coil in my Gs-tank at 450 degrees F. The mouth piece does get bit warm on a long draw!

That's a whole 'nother can of worms!
Drip Tip preference is as personal as anything.

Hung out the afternoon at the local B&M. It's family owned and operated by some truly nice human beings. The 19 yo son makes all of Kidney Punchers premade coils. His work is artful... Rebuilt two GS TC heads while I was there. Should have taken some pics but I didn't. Both were horizontal builds, 7/8 wraps @ 2.5mm ⌀, spaced. Seems to be a good size for performance and wicking with rayon. The first was 26g NiCr60 @ .70Ω (barely spaced). The second was with 28g SS316L @ .74Ω (.5mm(ish) spacing). I have to say they vaped pretty great in one of the new GS Airs. The NiCr peaked, in VW mode, around 35-40W. The SS was awesome in TC @ 420-460F & 25W and 30W in VW mode.. From watching Cheech's videos, the TC coils may be a bit easier to rebuild, after you get them apart! I figured out how to do that fairly simply after the first TOTAL FAIL. Wicking couldn't be easier, trimmed a hair beyond the head casing. Everyone said they outperformed the stock heads, which I didn't get the chance to try. The GS Air tank really is fine. I just hate the stupid sillycone vape band/AFC.

ETA: I realized after posting that my story was not very helpful to most in this thread. I would suggest most rebuild these, for non-TC use, at 2.5mm ⌀ with KanthalA1, 28g, 6/7 wrap, spaced @ 1.25Ω. This build is great from 12W-25W in the GS Air. At 10W, this will provide a very cool vape.

If you are a true tootle puffer, but like some warmth, 6/7 wraps of 30g, @ 1.9Ω, will perform great from 7-15W... If you wanted, you could go with 30g Nichrome60 (NiCr60) and total 1.5Ω. This is probably closest to a stock horizontal GS coil. But it would surely outshine said stock coil.

Wick both fairly chunky with rayon, trim to just beyond head casing and I think you'd be very happy.

Right. Which is why I use 29g Kanthal, my go-to gauge--faster than 28g but much easier to work with than the 30g.

Oh, and I prefer cotton--doesn't need to be too chunky--much easier to wick without distorting the coil.

:)

Where the heck is @Bikenstein ? He hasn't even logged on since Nov. 28th...

Good question. He comes and goes. I hope he'll be back soon...

Yep! I haven't got to the point of after market drip tips yet!

Nice to meet you, Leopards!

Do you have a vape shop nearby? The easiest way to find what you like is to actually look at them. Drip tips are all about personal preference--the shape, the length, the size of the bore, the material (delrin, acrylic, glass, stone, wood, ss, silicone...)

Good luck!

I just got some 29 AWG from Fasttech a few weeks ago, haven't used it yet but have high hopes compared to 30 gauge!

I've been keeping up with some of the new stuff coming out, but not this thread unfortunately. Has anyone tried the eleaf istick basic with the GS Air 2 tank, or the tank itself? It comes with 0.75 ohm coils, but will standard GS Air coils work with it? I have given one of my GS Air tanks and a pack of coil to a friend at work who wants to stop smoking. the Eleaf Istick basic looks llke a great starter kit for new people.

Haven't got one but it's cheaper here Eleaf Istick Basic Kit - ecig.com | Electronic Cigarettes There was a coupon code VapingCheap but I'm not sure if it still works.

This has to be the most overused meme on the Internet! I see it everywhere!

...because it's so spot-on and perfect! Now, it's almost cliche and doesn't even crack a smile out of me. Sad really, because the first time I saw it, I chuckled out loud.

I hope you like it. It's really my favorite gauge for smaller coils. I do use the 28, sometimes, in my RBAs, but 29 just works for me.

I can't say I have a go-to Favorite wire or gauge
when I started I guess most (kanger) coils were 32g kanthal
then I went with 31g kanthal for a LONG time...

now have been using 30g NiC80 and not sure if it is best... ? (for me)

here's a chart that I made that helps my p-brain try to keep track

upload_2016-1-24_14-33-35.png

made from Lightning Vapes site - compares resistance by wire gauge per ft

the 31g ramps up / heats way to qwik for my high-power 11-12w vaping :D
28g is way slower to heat (all monitored by watching during dry-burn cleaning)
which of course leads to greater battery consumption...

That's a great chart! You have 29 awg K1 at the same resistance as 28 awg, looks like a copy and paste issue, sites I've looked at show 29 awg as 6.55 ohms/ft:
Kanthal A1 Resistance Wire (AWG 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 33 & 34 - 3 Feet)
