Just tore one down. coils are wrapped around silica. The outer portion of the coil head is wrapped with a material that looks like the outer part of the Delta. But the crumbly junk pbusardo found is not present on this coil. Will try to post a pic....but I gotta get out the door. I think we are safe. Very little chance of that outer material coming apart....but I can't say what it's made of. Might be fiberglass, but I can't imagine it coming apart. And none of that crumbly junk to be found.

not sure what to be looking out for, but just boiled my used CS and GS coils for 10 minutes to clean them.. the wicking is still fibrous and cotton-like, able to fluff out of the holes. no crumbling.

Did you unwrap the wick all the way? No crumbly stuff?

How on earth did you guys manage to take them apart?????????????

Thank you! Thank you so much!

That makes me feel better!

But you know the drill--pictures or it didn't happen! ;)

I only boiled them, didn't take apart! after reading everyone's concerns, I definitely wanted to check!

used the pointy end of a thumbtack to check the wick through the holes, and the wicking has fibers, can be pulled/fluffed out the holes.. no crumbly junk.

Took a coil apart, here's the pics:
Seems like a standard coil containing silica
SAM_1735.jpg
Coil dismantled showing lining material
SAM_1736.jpg
Lining material layed out with one coil destroyed to try and see what it was
SAM_1739.jpg

No crumbly material inside that I could find and it is dual walled between
the layer material and the wicks...hope this sets some minds at rest.

Thanks, Bored and Cheechako, for doing that. It makes me feel a lot better. I tried to take apart a coil the other day but couldn't figure out how without destroying it.

Incidentally, I was a bit interested in the relationship between Joyetech and iSmoka/eLeaf. Googling around led me to a page showing that iSmoka is a trademark taken out by Joyetech (Changzhou) Electronics Co., Ltd. So it looks to me like they are the very same company (or that iSmoka is a division of the company, maybe to use for their lower priced products).

Someone in another thread was mentioning the possibility of a mistranslation between fiber cotton and cotton fibers, which doesn't mean fiberglass. So I'd like to hear more before thinking that Joyetech is using the same thing Aspire was using. Did anyone actually tear a Delta II coil apart?

Phil did at 36:00 min--that's what prompted this entire conversation. THere are already two thread discussing it.

Just returned. Yes, they are dual coils. I tossed my coils, and it appears Cheekacho (sp?) got good pics uploaded. Incidentally, I'm glad I destroyed this first coil because I popped in a fresh coil.......and so much better. I think that first coil was old when I first used it. Tasted dusty or something....can't describe it. But this fresh coil is moving air so much better, and much cleaner taste. Wish I had gotten it apart days ago to find out what was in there.

By the way, I just took a pair of pliers and some elbow grease to get it apart. I'm sure a determined person could rebuild this coil but I'm not that determined. At any rate there's no crumbly disintegrating junk in this coil, so we can all go back to being happy with this atty!

Thanks for update.
I had considered trying to cancel my order from yesterday, had already shipped.

The 'scare' did get me checking out RTA's. Good thing I guess.
Wanting a Kayfun V4 - the first that 'has it all' for me.
And will save a ton on coil costs.
While many stock coils can last weeks, I find I want the flavor wanting a new coil after just 2-3 days.

Have you considered the Lemo? Also made by Eleaf and widely popular among rebuilders.

Capt - I have the Eleaf Lemo and would second the suggestion. I think you'll find plenty of posts from Kayfun owners who also have the Lemo and would give the Lemo the edge for a number of reasons. I've never owned a Kayfun, but opted for the Lemo because it has wide open airflow potential. I still struggle getting wicking just right but that isn't a fault of the tank.....just my noobness to building. It's really fairly easy to build on.

Since getting the Air tank, I'm trying to run my cleaner juices in it......and make this my out and about / at work tank. I run my dirty juices in the Lemo so I can dry burn and rewick. I love a coffee vape that is literal hell on coils. I feel like I'm getting the best of both worlds now. I can rebuild when I have time but this Air tank is so far proving to be a pretty reliable performer....so I always have something working if I'm struggling to wick my Lemo right.

If you're new to RTA's like myself I think you're making a good choice by having a solid clearo tank along with it.

You're correct though....the Lemo is big. They do have the Lemo drop, which is a bit shorter. Same width I believe though. The Lemo looks wonky on my istick, but I really don't pay any attention whatsoever to how my device looks. I just care that it works.
