ok wait...let me get this straight...once you're completely off analog...after a short period of time...its normal to cough and all that with gunk coming out? Like thats a sign of your body expelling all those stuffs from analogs thats been stuck in your lungs?
Yep. That's a well known effect of quitting smoking by whatever means you do it.
Ok...so how me....3 months into total
vaping with no analog....felt better...much better after 1 week ....even better after 1st month. I'm also asthmatic....before....I wasnt able to pick up my 3yr old and carry her for 100m without gasping and needing my inhaler...now I can do it with a smile on my face without even needing the inhaler.
But...its now my 3 month'd time...and never had that coughing of gunk....however...this last few days...I been experience more coughs needing to clear...what i feel is maybe...phlem like stuffs from my lungs....could that be what you guys are talking about?
Easily could be.
As I recall, the deal is that the lungs have cilia that do an almost "conveyor belt" kind of thing, passing crap up the line to clean out the lungs of just... stuff. Biology ain't my best subject but this one stuck in my head. Mostly because the animated illustrations looked kind of funny.
The crap in cigs can paralyze the cilia. They slow down. May shut down. Stuff just stays in the lungs. In time, they can start to die off. Which ain't good.
Quitting inhaling the stuff that harms the cilia, the lungs start trying to repair themselves. The amount of time for the cilia (and there could be other mechanisms, I ain't no expert here) to get revved up again and start dredging gunk out of the lungs can vary. Depends a lot on how much and how long you smoked. And other factors like genetics and what not.
So, yeah, yours could be revving back up and dredging the junk up to clear your lungs. Here's a comment from a doctor at the Mayo Clinic site:
Coughing after quitting smoking: What's the deal? - MayoClinic.com
"Tobacco smoke slows the normal movement of the microscopic hairs (cilia) that line your lungs. When you stop smoking, the cilia become active again. As the cilia recover and the mucus is cleared from your lungs, you might cough more than usual perhaps for several weeks."
The person who asked the question quit but didn't start coughing until six weeks later.
So, yes, it's quite possible that's what's happening to you.
Of course, if it goes on a long time or becomes really, really bad, or if you cough up blood, get to a doctor. But a post quit cough can be a good sign. Means your lungs are starting to clean up the mess the cigs left behind.
