Never-mind the title, I'm conducting an experiment...

The Aim:
Get this to be close to the number one result on a google search of,
"Electronic cigarette Safe" Or "Electronic cigarette Safety"

Could we get some information about safety practices and proper vaping technique in here?

I'll come back an add to this later.

Just grow this thread with all the information you have.

1. If you are a beginner start with a mod with a built in battery.
2. If you use a replacable battery mod be able to do a watts law calculation from memory and understand how to apply that to what battery you choose or use only the battery with an amp rating recommended by the manufacturer.
3. Watch a youtube video of an 18650 battery being vented so you have the proper respect for why safe handling matters.
4. Avoid mech mods at least until you have plenty of experience with regulated mods and have been rebuilding for a while and until...., and, and.
5. Don't carry loose batteries with unprotected terminals (as mentioned above).
6. Avoid carrying loose batteries in pants pockets.
7. Don't use batteries with damaged wrappers.
8. Buy top tier batteries from reliable sources to avoid fakes.

e-cigarette health:
Do NOT believe all the "news stories". There are a couple "scientific studies" that were paid for by cigarette companies or pharmaceutical companies that basically BURNED the wick and juice of an e-cigarette, tested that SMOKE, and found it harmful. DUH. Studies done on actual VAPOR, the way we VAPE - those studies so far indicate that vaping an e-cigarette is AT LEAST 95% less harmful than smoking a cigarette. Possibly far more than that.
There are no known carcinogens produced by the juice or vapor.
Relief of breathing and lung issues, for MANY people, is nearly immediate.

e-cigarette safety:
E-cigarettes do not blow up. E-cigarettes do not catch fire.
BATTERIES can, if they are not handled properly.
Use the right battery, and learn how to handle it, charge it, and use it safely.

Safety note:
Under sure that device will catch fire?

Place inside a small tin box to contain the fire.

Extremely BAD idea.
The main reason people get injured is when the battery vents, its sealed inside a metal tube which causes pressure to build very quickly, thus the device litterally becomes a pipe bomb.

Here a good rule of thumb:
If you dont fully understand how a tool works, dont shove it in your mouth or your pocket.

Following that simple common sense rule would eliminate 99% of the problems.

I say 99% because some special snowflake will grenade their device knowing full well what they are messing with.

New metallic Efest purples come with a very straightforward warning on them:
DO NOT KEEP YOUR BATTERIES IN A POCKET OR PURSE OR ANY OTHER RECEPTICAL CONTAINING METAL OBJECTS

ALL 18650/26650 batteries should come with that warning imprinted on their labels.

Or just not stick tools in your pocket without fully understanding them.

With the pages of warnings and info only a click away being willfully ignored, I doubt tiny print on a wrapper will do much good.

Thats like putting a bandaid on a bullet hole.

Outstanding posts bad ninja!

Right now I have my tin ajar so the vent gas can escape.

1.At the site you have your charger have a fire extinguisher a good distance away.
Take note of this location.

2.Do not have a fire extinguisher right on near the location, because the fire may have spread to the location of the fire extinguisher.

3.At the site of your charging station, have a smoke detector present. Write the date in which you installed it so you know when to change batteries.

4.Make sure your charger is not near any potential fuel sources.

5.Make sure that your fire extinguisher can fight Class C fires.
Basically electrical fires.

Informational Resources:
For more information on what fire extinguisher to choose,

Google "Fire Classes"

Fire class - Wikipedia

If your vape catches fire while in your pocket, calmly remove the device, place it on the ground and dose with water.

ALSO USE AN INSULATED CONTAINER TO HOLD YOUR BATTERIES!

Lol.
They dont vent on their own.
You have to seriously screw up, or be dangerously careless to cause a cell to vent.

Before you go nutty with crazy safety stuff you should probably do a search and see how the vets here handle their gear.
I dont have a fire extinguisher near my charger.

Remember that part in my post about understanding the tools you are using?

Yes and I've foolishly missed so many bullets at the moment.

The problem I see is people buying poorly designed vapes and not understanding.

I mean I used to have a mech, but there was something fishy about it. It was a clone, so I just got rid of the thing cause I didn't want something that didn't have proper vent holes near my face.

I was also using 18650's brought off of amazon this is going back to when I was 24 years old.

I couldn't slow my roll about vaping, I just WANTED SO BADLY to have a rebuild able!

Why do I need someone to tell me about that? The people selling the stuff should properly inform me.

They should provide examples about what can conduct?
Like for example a pocket full of change, a pocket full of car keys.

You can't just pick up a vape and know what the hell your doing.

If you can't understand basic Ohm's law, DO NOT GET A REBUILDABLE.

IF YOU CANNOT OR AT-LEAST ARE UNWILLING TO BASIC MATH CALCULATIONS, DO NOT BUY A REBUILD ABLE!

Do not ARROGANTLY pick up a vape!

Incorrect.
It isnt the design of the device.
The design of a mech mod is a flashlight.
Its basic, very simple, and can be as safe or dangerous as ypu make it.
Thats why we call them mods.
"Modified Flashlight". Moded to accept a coil and wick in place of a bulb.

The design is sound.
Its operator error.

Being foolish is no excuse.

I use a piece of hardiebacker (cement fiber board) on a table. Charger goes on top of that. The stuff is pretty fireproof, although I've never had a charger fire. Just one battery that got hot and gassed a little, courtesy of the dog knocking it off my desk.

Could you provide any links on getting this cement fiber board? Could I get it at a local hard ware shop.

P.S I figured out how to quote again!
