Incorrect.
It isnt the design of the device
The design of a mech mod is a flashlight.
Its basic, very simple, and can be as safe or dangerous as ypu make it.
Thats why we call the mods.
"Modified Flashlight". Moded to accept a coil and wick in place of a bulb.

The design is sound.
Its operator error.

Being foolish is no excuse.

Understood,

But you have to come see it from my way, someone might just intentionally pick up a vape and have it fail to get a lawsuit going against someone...

That's why I think local Brick and mortars need to take copies of ID, so they can make sure they have the potential framer documented.

That's the problem with this type of thinking. Read the complaints people that have had mods vent/flame up on them Most of them think a battery is a battery and it's not going to harm me. AT LEAST A WARNING LABEL MAY MAKE THEM THINK TWICE. YES, the forefront of safety begins in the shop, and if mods come with warnings, shouldn't the battery that powers said mod come with one as well?

Changing an industry to accomodate illegal fraudulent lawsuits is crazytown.

Shops have lawyers too.

Copies of IDs?
Wut?
No, thats a bit Orwellian.
Try building a database and see how far that goes. Kiss the business goodbye.

Yeah but some businesses that cannot afford a good lawyer need to cover their Butts.

In my city,

The FDA is looking for young kids to go out and buy tobacco to make sure the ID check is enforced.

Asking for ID isnt the same as copying DLs and keeping a database.

FYI cops have done this with convenience stores for decades.
No need for database and copies of IDs.

But I live in New York City....I don't know if the local shop is aware to these things.

It's a tile backer board. Home depot, lowes, any decent sized hardware store should have it. You cut it by scoring with a utility knife, then snap it. Comes in 3'x5' sheets. It'll stay in place during a decent fire, but it will turn into chalk with no strength afterwards. My wood stove in the house sits on 2 layers of it (haven't tiled yet). It gets up to 700F at times when I'm really cranking out the heat. 700F doesn't affect it.

Yes, most can and will defend against frivolous lawsuits.
And all retail stores have insurance.

As a long time business owner, tpu cant remove all risks of every hypothetical incident where you get sued.
You do good business and dont take stupid risks.

If a business owner is not aware of all the requirements to do business including the legal ramifications before they open a business, they won't be around long, which is a good thing.

New metallic Efest purples come with a very straightforward warning on them:
DO NOT KEEP YOUR BATTERIES IN A POCKET OR PURSE OR ANY OTHER RECEPTICAL CONTAINING METAL OBJECTS

ALL 18650/26650 batteries should come with that warning imprinted on their labels.
Good - I've been asking them to do that for months.

I assume professionals who invest money in opening a retail establishment know how to run a biz...thats just common sense....but its NewYork city, so all bets are off.
Ill give you that one.

Good reply!

Some needs to get a book out on Kindle on owning and operating a vape shop.

Better than that...
Almost every college and university on the planet offers classes and degrees in business management.

Or just not stick tools in your pocket without fully understanding them.

With the pages of warnings and info only a click away being willfully ignored, I doubt tiny print on a wrapper will do much good.

Thats like putting a bandaid on a bullet hole.

Might stop one or two. And that's a good thing.

Doubtful.
All evidence to the contrary.
The ones grenading their cells apparantly dont have critical thinking skills.
Relocating the information to fine print on a shrink wrapper, doesnt fill me with confidence, but hey.. Cant hurt, right?

Personally Id rather see the real root of the problem everyone ignores, addressed.

A confusing thread.
Back in the day (not even 2 years ago) all of the pertinent battery safety info I got was from this forum and Battery University. It's here if you want the knowledge.
I also think its up to anybody to do their own research, but I have an electrical background and know you have to respect ANY power source.

Well, Murphy's law says "if it can go wrong, it will go wrong." So, the solution is either batteries that don't explode, or no more changeable batteries.

The problem here is in the psychology of the consumer. We're so used to AA batteries that it's hard to convince people that these batteries are different.

IMO, you could have vape stores telling people how dangerous they are until they're blue in the face and we'd see people injuring themselves, and not just careless people (i.e. people you'd consider careless in other areas of life).

Essentially we're talking about a mindset change from AA to ammunition in terms of the respect accorded to these batteries. That's a tough one.
