Okay- I'll be the odd man out.

I call mine an electronic cigarette, and plan to continue to do so. I smoked cigarettes for a couple of decades, and started smoking (yes, I said smoking) this thing to replace them. I use the same name for the ones that look like cigs and the ones that don't.

The antis aren't opposed to these things cause of the word "cigarette." They are opposed to them because they want to control other people's lives.

It's NOT just semantics, it's not just the word we choose. There is a battle happening between those who believe people should be free to make choices, and people who think they should not.

Keep the battle where it IS. Don't retreat. By no, but it's not a cigarette, you're just retreating.

People have a RIGHT to smoke cigarettes if they so choose. By whining that we shouldn't be included with the smokers, we are supporting the agenda that smokers shouldn't be allowed to smoke.

Stop it. We're all is this together.

Best,
Ande

PS- If this sounds harsh, it could be because a lot of my luggage, including vaping supplies, has decided NOT to accompany me to California. I am on my last (small) bottle of eliquid, and am rationing. VERY grumpy. Any idea where to get snus in silicon valley?

Selling of electronic cigarettes is banned in Taiwan,
the use of the word cigarette could raise some flag, causing attention of authorities.
(meaning you can call it whatever you want, just as long as the word cigarette does not come up,
and also, no photo, and you might get away with it)

So I heard that in the underground blackmarket
they are sometimes referred to as
electronic vaporizer or electronic fog machine.

Okay, time to come clean- I don't really call it smoking. (When I ask if I can, I ask "Mind if I don't smoke?")

And I don't belong to ANY militia.

BUT...the war on smokers (NOT on smoking) is our fight to.

When I was in college, everybody was up in arms over drug testing for employment.

Many folks didn't approve of drug use, and the ability to test your employees' piss became widespread.

Now it's nicotine they're testing for. A LEGAL recreational drug which doesn't impair performance, and it can be a bar to getting some jobs.

We need to wake up-

STOP thinking that if we convince the antis that it isn't a cig, they'll accept it.

They won't, at least not for long.

The significant question is not "Are we smoking?" it's "Why don't you mind your own ....ing business?"

Best,
Ande

I'm just wondering if those who think vaping=smoking (iow, we're in the fight with the smokers) thinks that smoking pot=smoking cigarettes? To me those two things are different, as are vaping vs smoking.

I don't disagree though that a fight is on to preserve our rights to do lots of things. I find it interesting to contrast the cigarette war (which has pretty much already been lost) to the pot war (which is going in the other direction. It's moving toward legalization).

I also observe that most people I personally know who would not allow me to smoke in their homes or cars are just fine with my vaping in their places once they learn what it is. They see me off smoking for a long time now, remember how I used to smell and how I was killing myself and are glad I'm vaping instead. They had no idea what it was when I first started, but now see it for what it is and isn't. It isn't smoking.

While the desire to undercut the druglords certainly had something to do with what is happening with pot.
It seems to me that the increasing recognition of the potential medical benefits is what has really turned the tide.

It sort of "legitimizes" the use of pot under certain circumstances, thereby making it harder to demonize.
And this is exactly what we need to do with nicotine.

Because those that stand against us have shifted their argument from "smoking is evil" to "nicotine is evil".
And yet there are more and more potential benefits of nicotine usage that are coming to light.

Another thing that stands in the way is the idea that nicotine is as addictive as .......
This is an idea that is now cemented in the public consciousness.

But I think many of us here are learning things that are making us seriously question this belief.

A couple things here. Right now, the people promoting PVs get a lot more air time than we do. Who are they marketing to?...smokers They want smokers to beleive there's no difference. The problem for us is that the message is not confined to smokers. Therefore other people think there's no difference and they think they need to be banned.

As for the antis no being influenced by cig in the name. First, I'll say that all people that don't like to be around smoke are interested in controlling other people. They exist but, they are not the majority. In my experience in public, something that doesn't look like a cigarette is more accepted than something that does. If you vape something that resembles a cigarette, people tend to consider you a smoker trying to get around the rules. A box mod tends to inspire curiosity. That's been my experience anyway.

Lastly and I can't take credit for coming up with this one. I saw it in another thread. I'll also warn you that if you run with this your posts could be deleted. How about calling it a Personal Electronic Nicotine Inhalation System? :)
