Are you really suggesting that smokers are bad people??? Or was your remark tongue-in-cheek?

Surely I don't even have to suggest it, do I?? I thought we all already understood!

....... antisocial beepholes who are polluting everybody's air out of their own sick addiction?

If they pay for kids education with their taxes, it'll be the only positive act in their pathetic worthless lives.

(breathes deeply)

I really NEED a "dripping with evil sarcasm" emoticon.

But seriously- I fear that this is how smokers, tobacco users, and addicts in general are viewed by enough people that the punitive taxes and ridiculous unjustifiable restrictions seem almost moderate compared to what some people would do to us.

And yeah, I said "us." I'm a smoker. (non-practicing)

And a nicotine addict. (practicing while I type this. :vapor: )

Best,
Ande

Isn't it nice to know the education of children with disabilities falls out of the pockets of a select group of individuals as opposed to the overall population? You should be honored that health benefits and education have been placed on your broad shoulders. Carry the load wisely.

How about cutting funding for sports programs and using the money for say..... ah.... Education. I always thought school was supposed to be about getting an education not about getting naked in a shower with a bunch of other guys.

Same goes with the sin tax they passed in Ohio to build the stadiums. Multimillionaires getting tax money in order to get more money? If the Indians actually win a World Series what do I get out of it? If the Browns actually win a Superbowl do I get a cut of the money? Do I get a cut of the ticket sales?

It's the same difference.

Yeah, I also got my reply from Feinstein, and it was the same as yours.

I will never respect or consider voting for either her or Boxer, but I have to say one thing...
At least she had the guts to indicate in her reply exactly what her position is.

I know that doesn't mean for one second that she read my comments.
But at least it shows that her staff is asked to take the time to separate the pros from the cons.

However, the part about understanding my opposition to the tax increases on tobacco products is clearly BS.

She obviously has not read my comments and doesn't understand what my real concerns are.
In that respect, she is the just the same as all the rest.

I have no problem paying taxes that go to the benefit of public interest. What I have a problem with is all the money that goes to things that work against the public interest. If this were not the problem, they would easily already have enough tax revenue to fund programs like this.

So, they make sure the "inside" interests are taken care of, then they tax the consumer to cover the cost of these interests.

I shall always support sports, at whatever level. What I received with my degree got me into jobs. What I learned from sports enabled me to endure when things went bad. Sports main education comes from losing and learning how to lose. Most people, even athletes don't get that concept. In business and life you spend periods that, no matter what you do, it doesn't work. The concept of losing, learning and moving forward gets moved into the microcosm. Sports have a pre-defined period in which your success or failure is judged, life doesn't give you that pre-defined period.

In life, you need to take sections and turn them into seasons with the relative points within those "seasons" being considered "games". You may lose a game within a season, learn and have some level of success for that "season". If you find that you're losing a lot of "games" within that "season". you need to decide if you can turn that season around or perhaps you're not right for that game. In my life, I had two "seasons" or job tracks. The first lasted almost 10 years and analyzing my record, I chose to change "games". The second went 25 years, using all my previous failures to make for an amazingly successful second season. It wasn't void of some serious "game" losses, but acceptance of losses is necessary of overall success.

Hope I didn't take this too deep, but I see sport as being critical to learning success and failure.

I first began daily smoking in college. Then, the sororities used smoking as part of the "Rush" evaluation of candidates to join. They put out bowls of various brands of cigarettes, and watched how the prospective pledges lit, held, and used their cigarette. I kid you not.

That was nearly 50 years ago. In the interim, the tobacco control world has implemented their very carefully crafted plan to wipe out all use of tobacco. One of their methods is called "denormalization of smoking." Velvet Glove, Iron Fist: The Godber blueprint

It turned into "denormalization of smokers" if you ask me.

Other parts of the plan you see unfolding around you. Ban smoking, step by step, expanding the area of non-smoking as you go. Start with indoors, then move it outdoors, and finally do what would have been unthinkable 50 years ago. Tell people they are not allowed to do a legal activity in their own homes and their own automobiles.

How about we cut funding for sports.

How about we only tax those with kids for schools. Or do away with public schools altogether?

How about cutting all welfare programs... paying back the social security we paid in and letting people be responsible for themselves. Churches and charities are for helping those in need. If u want to give great.

...and do away with property tax-u never own your home people its leased from the gov. Same with car registration- o u can have it- u just can't use it-oh and there is a fee (fee is a nice word the gov uses for TAX) for that too.

...how about not taxing me because im having a soda or a water bottle...a cigarette or beer...or having a garage sale...or getting married... or inheriting something someone already paid taxes on...or buying gas....or a dog...etc etc etc Why is it ok for the gov to steal from me to give to someone else? Why don't they just charge a tax if u buy something like a flat rate for every purchase they might as well- oops that's called sales tax and we have that too....and yearly state and federal taxes to boot...the list is endless. (I realize some taxes vary by state)
The framers of the constitution would be horrified, and warned against all this.
We are not free but slaves. Controlled slaves with enough freedom to keep quiet like happy hamsters running on a wheel

When are people gonna revolt and take this country back?

Never, because they spend all day watching tv. They are told what to do, how they should think and talk-and believe the lies that r reported and repeated over and over being indoctrinated since childhood.

Wake up people. If u wanna know what's really going on in the world watch the documentary called wake up call. Its a good start

Well, I read this thread and my head hurts. I work w/ Special Ed kids- My salary is evidently partially paid by the very tax that is being proposed for my vaping....and I can't vape at work (well, at least I'm not suppose to...haha). I agree though, a select few shouldn't have to pay for IDEA (now IDEIA)....and as smokers decrease, the taxes increase...thus, they evidently have to include other forms such as vaping that weren't part of "tobacco use" until recently. It's a no-win situation. Can't they make criminals work harder or something else??
