i live in Australia and no one knows about ecigs. the Australian way to quit smoking is to stop cold turkey and anything else means you're not a "Man" so i just use my pv at home. I'm worried about meeting new people and explaining what I'm using to stop smoking.

how would you deal with it?

ive tried to vape proud but theres just some people that are convinced that I'm smoking drugs.

I wouldn't care so much about what other people think. As long as you know that you are working on quitting cigarettes. You never know, you might convert someone to the healthier alternative to cigarettes.

Meh. Don't tell them you're quitting smoking. Tell them you've started vaping, then about all the cool flavors around and how it's superior to smoking. I've never been lucky enough to go to Australia, but I know those types. The moment you start prevaricating and sounding like you're making excuses, they're on you like stink on....like fleas on a dog. Don't make excuses to them, don't doubt that what you're doing is right for you, even if they don't approve.

Hold your head up, look them in the eye, and tell them vaping is better than smoking.

I had same problem in NZ I used cig lookalikes for public and work then when a few people knew what I was using I then switched to my Ego 650 just a bit bigger and not too in your face. Now I leave my device on my desk and when people ask what it is at work the other folks at work answer for me like its perfectly normal. I stealth vape when Im out at the beach ect as you get the druggie looks and you cant explain to strangers who arent going to ask a perfect stranger what theyre smoking (It looks like smoke so it is smoke to them) Im really hopeing more people get into it here as its a pain being looked at and judged so I totally understand how you feel.

I just tell people I'm not "quitting smoking", I want to "smoke" more. I can "smoke" inside, "smokes" are cheaper etc.

Just tell them vaping is another nicotine delivery system, and its better than smoking or hookah, and safer to boot.

Hey Shifty, welcome to ECF! I don't know how bad the macho smoking thing is over there, so I won't presume to know how I would deal with it, but I have an idea in addition to what others have already mentioned that could be intersting ...

'A drug ... no man, it's just like smoking, but not like the pansy smokes that you do. This is killer. Wanna try it mate? Make sure it's a really strong tobacco flavor at 24 mg that will blow their socks off. When they gag and turn green, say something like 'It's got much better kick when I mix in some of Uncle Jack's moonshine. Come over to the house later and try THAT!'

I grew up in "The South" here in the U.S. I understand the line of thinking and I am glad that you are being strong. We are here to support you and there might be a local meetup you can check on for more support. I've heard a lot of vapers that are in A.U. It will soon be much bigger than damned analogs, keep strong.

Unless its small and looks like are cigarette, you are always going to have this problem.
