I'm having my Wisdom Teeth taken out at 9:45 tommorow so please respond quick!!

I didn't worry to much about the smoking thing because i thought 'No worries, I just vape I don't smoke.' Now I'm giving myself a giant facepalm because i just realized, and I should have known better I'm smarter than that, its the sucking action of smoking that causes the dry socket.

I can't vape eithier. I would try to just quit, but I'm staying with my parents during recovery and I DO NOT want to bite there heads off.

I have some commit lozenges but I'm reading all sorts of horrible things that they can do to your teeth so that seems like an aweful idea too.

What about putting a single drop of liquid under the tounge, would I absorb nicotine that way? Or am I basically going to have to just suck it up?

Gross as it might sound, I second jaded on snorting the vapor lol. I had my wisdom teeth taken out in Japan with local anesthetic, 2 on right side first, then back for 2 on the left side. Can't believe it now, but I smoked analogs the whole time. No issues but ugh. Sorry, OT there.

The drop of nic might work if it's not too high content, but sounds not so tasty...and not sure how good secretions from snus would be for the wound. Nasavape, I say.

So your concern is about vaping during recovery? (Sorry, I'm not familiar with wisdom tooth extractions...yet, at least. Still young and waiting for the next x-ray to tell.)

You could also try either the nicotine patch (for a steady dose) and/or nasal snuff (for a quick rush; check out Smokeless Tobacco for recommendations) to get nicotine. Both will avoid disturbing your mouth while it heals.

I hope the extraction goes fine and recovery is quick!

Are you having all 4 pulled at one time? Only 1 or 2? I just had a tooth pulled recently and, or course, dentist said not to smoke. I didn't much, but I did put a wad of gauze over the hole and bit down on it and vaped a little. That will protect the socket some. But if you have more than one pulled, I think I would try something else (snus, patch, etc.)

After having serveral teeth removed, I have found a trick that works for me. I take a piece of gauze and fold it up then place it over the extraction socket, holding it in place just suck lightly when you vape. When you are not vaping take the gauze out. Dry socket happens when the blood clot is dislodged from the socket, which can happen when sucking on a cig or vaping. The gauze keeps the clot from being dislodged. It's only the first 24 to 36 hours that are critical. If you are very careful you should be ok, you just don't want to suck hard on anything, including straws. If you do dry socket, get right back in to the dentist and they will pack it and all will be well.

Good luck!!!

Use a new atty (for a lighter pull). Follow the instructions below and do NOT suck very hard.. VERY lightly. I had both of my wisdom teeth pulled and continued to smoke (cigs). I followed the below instructions, but I still ended up with a dry socket in one of them (this can happen anyway, but it is better to reduce your chances). You do not want a dry socket... let me repeat this. YOU DO NOT WANT A DRY SOCKET. Ok sorry for the yelling, but you need to understand it is very painful. Seriously seriously seriously painful. Head exploding pain that makes Jack Daniels and Smith and Wesson seem like good friends to hang out with.

How else can you get dry sockets besides sucking a cig, or a straw, etc??

Washing your mouth too rigorously (only slosh, no closed mouth action). Eating hard/semi soft foods. A oral surgeon mistake. Bad luck. It is not hard to dislodge the clot that the oral surgeon helped create.

If it happens and you need immediate releaf, then head to your local drug store and get some eugenol oil (straight clove oil also works). It will help until you get to the doctor.

Hope your surgery went well!

I wasn't a smoker when I had my wisdom teeth out, but I was a smoker when I had a rear molar extracted, and then had all of my top teeth and all but my six lower front teeth yanked. I wasn't vaping at the time, but it's pretty similar.

I agree 100% about using a new atty or a *very* clean atty.

Because I have a bleeding tendency (I swear my family is really messed up genetically, along with Sjogren's I have von Willebrand's disease), I didn't use gauze when I had the single extraction. I used wet tea bags, because the tannins stop bleeding and promote clotting. Moistened the teabag, folded it over and made sure it covered the socket completely, and bit really, really hard then smoked lightly.

With the major extractions, I couldn't use the teabags, but since I had temporary plates I put gauze in between them in the back, again bit down REALLY hard to get as much of a seal as I could, and smoked lightly.

I can say that my sockets healed a bit slower than my dentist seemed to expect, but no dry socket.

Also.... if you have some Phenergan to take with your pain pills, it may make you drowsy enough where you just sleep through the recovery period mostly. When my wisdom teeth came out, they gave me Mepergan (demerol/phenergan) and I barely remember the first 24 hours because I was so asleep.

(What I do remember was my mother checking on me about the time I was supposed to take my second dose, and freaking out and making me go into the bathroom and her pulling out all of the gauze and restuffing me with fresh gauze while on the phone with the doctor asking if I needed to go to the ER. Apparently I had bled through the gauze and all over my pillowcases -- soaked through into the foam of the pillow in a few place, had to toss the pillow. No ER visit though since the bleeding finally stopped about 30 minutes after the new gauze was put in, because Mom kept me awake and made me consciously bite as hard as I could per the doctor's instructions. I only share this story now AFTER you've had the surgery, I don't believe in scaring people before they go under the knife.)

Again, hope surgery went well!

Much Respek to everyone who replied, thanks so much.

But Screw....That. XD

lol, I'm sure it would probably be fine, but I am not risking dry socket. I'll go ahead and buy patches tonight. Should have thought about that before. Thanks though. See the problem is, the place I'm going to recover is in bum-&^%^ no where, and if I got dry socket, it would take like an hour to get to a dentist, provided there open when it happens.

Oh, I misread the time on here, I thought this was posted yesterday and you had your surgery this morning, it said this was posted "yesterday at 11:00 PM" when I read it, so I assumed you had it was this morning!

I think you're making a wise decision as well. But the gauze biting thing, as my horror story proves... is important even if you don't smoke. At least it is if you have bleeding problems like I do.

Good news is that I went on a road trip 3 days after and managed to have a great time even with chipmunk cheeks, so I wish you the best in having a speedy recovery!

Oh, one other hint -- be careful if you do as my dentist instructed when I had my major extractions done and take your first pain pill BEFORE the numb wears off. I went to the bathroom, put the pill in the back of my throat, and tried to pour water out of a squeeze sports bottle into my mouth. I guess I didn't get it aimed properly, and my lips were numb... I choked, and spewed bloody water EVERYwhere. I hope I'm never investigated for murder because, despite me doing my best to clean up in there, I'm sure under luminol it still looks like someone died in there.
