there is no spring, they operate off of magnetic resistance. Torching would destroy the magnetism. I may do patina'd brass in the future, but this would have to be done before the magnets are installed.

Meanwhile, in the calm before the storm, a question on stems.
Absintheur (and anyone else who knows)...so I was looking for my old analog pipe snuff box and located it. It housed my orignal "Nat King Cole Special" I used to smoke in college as well as a nice black rose stem. So I slapped a cherry vape universal adapter on that bad boy and BOOM...perfect fit. Is this typical of tobacco pipe stems or did I just get lucky?
Tenon sizes are somewhat standardized, not all are interchangeable but many will tho minor fitting may be required. I just picked up this stem, a little work with an emery board and it fits a universal as well as the mega adapter on the single coil mega carto.

To confirm: though my magnet already comes off, there is a magnet inside that I would be demagnetizing by heating it up too much? Or is the inside ferrous and the only magnet is the one on the outside. Theoretically I could remagnetize ferrous material but ... not really worth it
[edit: actually the Curie point of steel and iron are both fairly high ... I wouldn't use my torches but I think I could bake the button if the inside of the button is ferrous and not a rare-earth magnet. If it is a rare earth magnet embedded inside then I couldn't do that as the Curie temp would be below the brass oxidation temp]
Either way from a reliability I like that, as it sounds like a much more robust system than a spring anyway, so good to know.
If the buttons are hand-assembly (maybe with some glue if not friction fit), I could see unassembled buttons as good additions to the CIY system if you decide to offer more of that.

buttons are composed of 3 magnets. 2 free floating and 1 fixed (pressed in). The buttons can be disassembled but typically the press fitted magnet is destroyed in the process.

Im out on the pipes this week for sure, bills got me this week. That didnt stop me from preparing for my Mjolnir, however. I know someone posted the colors for the M3. I think I saw a Cobalt blue type design, hopefully exactly like this Bull Box drip tip I just bought last night for it. I know, Im backing myself in a corner, and directly into the age old adage of which comes first, the tip/stem or the pipe.
