- WHO provides any kind of recommendation for the product
- batteries last for a day before recharging
- it's remotely like smoking
- "tobacco" flavours have anything in common with the taste of tobacco
- there are a large number of manufacturers
- it's ready for the mainstream market
- atomizers and batteries have a reasonable lifetime with moderate use
- you can use it to wean off nicotine
- it is as satisfying as a proper cigarette
- the atomizer creates the "mist" using some technobabble mechanism, rather than just boiling the eliquid
- you get what you pay for
- you exhale only water vapour
- usual marketing nonsense of "Other" manufacturers using "chemicals" whereas "We" use "ingredients"
- there are 4000 known carcinogens in a cigarette (don't know why this one keeps getting repeated)
- manufacturers can "tell" if you use someone else's e-liquid (like they come from different factories anyhow)
- existence of quality control

OK, now I'm about to show my innocence: if it isn't water vapour, what is it we're exhaling?

Sorry if this has been answered dozens of times before but I'd seen this notion and had fallen hook, line and sinker for it. Worse, I've repeated it to other people outside in the real world.

Just been and checked a couple of suppliers' sites (both active in this forum) to check and here are the quotes:

"Only water vapour is produced no different to the vapour produced by a boiling kettle"
"A water-based vapour is released from the glycol by the atomiser to resemble smoke"

As I'm one of those people who always tells others not to believe everything they find on the Internet I'm feeling pretty foolish right now. Not a sensation I particularly enjoy.

There is some detailed cleaning process going on after every 1,500 hits.

There is a complex microprocessor in the unit.

You actually are inhaling less nicotine then when you were smoking analogs.

Its safe since its just food flavouring.

There is no smell.

You will save lots of money.

Its easy to clean.

X flavor tastes like x

"I will send it right out to you". =)

If it doesn't seem to be working, that could be because the device has an auto shutoff protection feature which shuts it off if you are inhaling too much nicotine.

We are all different manufacturers, we just all decided to spell the juice verginia and name them the same.

Ummmm, is it bad if I don't agree with these two ? Can I do that ?

I think it is possible to wean oneself off nicotine with the E-cigarette. I have read of others who have done so and now only vape Non nic carts, just to satisfy the hand to mouth habit/addiction.

In fact, my brother used E-cigarettes to completely quit smoking altogether. He used them for a couple of months and was able to slowly bring his nic usage down to zero. From there he said it was easy for him to quit the hand to mouth habit too, so it can be done !

Speaking for myself, I have managed to bring down my nic usage considerably, both compared to before I E-vaped and since I started E-vaping (or doesn't that count because I haven't quit the nic altoghether {yet} ?).

For me E-vaping is definitely as satisfying as smoking analogue cigarettes, otherwise I would never have been able to quit them altogether, even though I had not intention of doing so when I started E-vaping !

Aren't these statements dependant on the person as we are all different people who have different perceptions ?

Agree with the others though, great idea for a thread Kate :thumb: !

Cheers,
Silver

This is what the Ruyan research says:

"... the exhaled mist of the e-cigarette is composed of propylene glycol, and probably contains almost no nicotine; and no CO..."

http://healthnz.co.nz/RuyanCartridgeReport21-Oct-08.pdf

I agree with you Silver, those are two observations I was unsure about ;)

Yeah. Whenever I boil my kettle it smells like smoke machine. Try exhaling through your nose, and tell me that's just water vapour. More of the "patented e-cigarette marketing nonsense".

Actually, 'patent' sounds like another one...

I thought Bertand's & Bribri's lists pretty good but would remove "as satisfying as a proper cigarette", "you can use it to wean off nicotine" and "you will save lots of money" as myths - all are more points of view rather than myths.

In several ways I find the e-cig more satisfying than a proper cigarette - though the temptation still makes itself known. Can't figure out why - the real things smell bad, you need an ashtray, have to go outside and the smoke sticks to your hands and clothes. I wouldn't say the temptation returning makes the e-cig less satisfying. My one relapse was brief and I was soon back on the e-cig.

I agree with Silver's point on it being possible to use the e-cig to wean of nicotine. Many users don't want to use it that way - for those that do I can see no reason why it wouldn't work similarly to any nico inhaler.

The "saving money" issue is where things get out of hand - particularly for the gadget freak. I'm now in possession of 3 different setups (all with replacement batteries (3+) and atomisers (2+)). I also have enough juice and around 10 different flavours to last me to Easter - not counting the 150 or so cartridges!

Every time I tell myself "right - that's it!" a week or so passes and another purchase is made. I don't blame the e-cig though - it's my own fault for reading this forum! ;)

Soot...first of all, I love John Lennon and especially that pic.

The saving money thing makes me giggle. You've got 3? I've been using them since April and I cannot count how many I have now. They're mostly 901's in all sorts of colors...I have three kissboxes now, (I'm still using the original, the two others are put away for emergency)... the others...heck, they still work, but I put them away because I like the 901's and the kissbox. Merry Chrisssmiss, I'm broke! LOL

LOL! Me too Karen. Maybe I'll stop buying new toys in the new year. Doubt it though. :)

Thanks Karen - it was the nearest I could get to a pic of what I might look like when I get older ;).

At this very moment I'm toying with the idea of getting 2 30ml bottles of Totally Wicked Virginia. Do I need it? No! I've got TW Apple (it's OK) and TW Mint (it's OK - but seems to give me heartburn - white wine does that too, pity whiskey doesn't! ;)). I'd a wee dribble of TW Virginia left, I dripped it in to my KB and my eyes rolled.

2 TW's will be ordered before the night is out! (Just to make sure I don't run out over Christmas ;)).

What about guarantees, are they a myth as has been suggested on the forum or do companies really provide after sales service?

I've had experience with Janty, Sedansa and e-cigs.co.uk and they have all replaced or refunded failed or unwanted products.

Someone said that Gamucci don't back up their guarantee, so for them that would be a myth/misrepresentation.

He's right you know. If i can't tell people that what i am exhaling is not harmful to them and does NOT contain Nicotine in any shape or form then it is not going to be legal in Public.
Try giving one of e-cigs.uk's cards to a Scottish hairy arsed Bobby who's just told you to "put that thing away sonny or your inside"

I bought an used gamucci. I emailed gammuci and the ebayer that sold the unit to who I bought it from, asking them some questions. I got no answers...so I emailed them again...no answers. I would never recommend a gammuci to anyone. that is my experience and I haven't seen one participate in this forum that sells gammuci come out and tell us why their product is so good.

After about a 3 or 4 day delay in email communications, Njoy replaced a weak/almost dead penstyle atomizer for me. They sent me a postage-paid envelope wanting the bad one back. Before I got it into the mail, a second new atomizer arrived. I suspect this was due more to the multiple emails I sent than their "generosity", but I'm certainly ok with 2 penstyle bats and 2 atomizers. They're a great backup for when the 901 bats are charging.

I only drip the Njoys though. The carts just don't work worth a crap.

Puresmoker has also replaced 2 bad bats for me.. no hassle at all and quick response.

i think five year guarantees are a myth.. but until five years have passed no one knows for sure.. i add the last bit just in case someone asks me to prove what i think..

i also think a guarantee should reflect the expected product life not a merry go round of replacement parts for a promised time..

but who give a sh-t what i think.. it will never go along with the consensus norm which is what forums are all about..
