I've done that as well with the TI 8100. I'm not sure that is good practice. Some one might chime in regarding their purpose in our type application.

i believe somewhere earlier in the thread someone spoke with a TI tech who explained that the caps were there (as they usually are) to provide for a cleaner voltage, but since there's no AC here, it isn't critical, but still recommended for the Vin side, whereas the Vout side can probably be ommitted sine its going straight to the coil, which shouldn't be too sensitive to minute voltage differences.

I have not found using the 3rd pin works. The difference in voltage is too great and the meter tries to read each then adds the two. The drawing shows how I do it in all my VV. It is basically a separate circuit for the meter and center position is off because I don't want the light on all the time

interesting idea thank you

Where do you guys buy your electronic components? I need to buy some more tantalum caps and maybe try some thumbwheel pots. The only place I found that has both of those is digikey and their out of stock on a lot of stuff.... Jameco has a great price on caps, but they dont have the pot I'm looking for. Mouser is the same.

What a great thread, just finished reading the 108 pages, bookmarking what I thought would be important when I get ready to build one of my own and of course I must thank bigblue for starting it all.

There were a couple of questions about incorporating a charging circuit into the mod and I'm wondering if anyone has tried making a VV mod using either the 5V 1.5A Mobile Power Supply Travel Portable USB Battery Charger 18650 or the 5V 1A Output USB 18650 Battery Box Charger Portable Mobile Power Supplies listed on this page with the end result being a VV mod and a way to keep the batteries charged?

I got one thinking the same thing, but it's a monster. Hold 4 18650's in your hand then add an inch or so on the end - I didn't find it comfortable to carry. I mainly wanted it for a tank in the box. It would work though - I decided it would be better for backup power though.

It looked like the two battery unit would be more manageable. Think I'll get one of the four bat units to keep batteries fresh and possibly hook up a pass through to it. Wish I had the expertise to wire a 510 connector to it so I could flip a switch for vaping, flip it back for charging or a pass through supply.
