The thing is I don't understand a lot of what is being said. Some say they get by just fine with a normal set up, others have to do all sorts of cleaning...

I have used two different eGo type batteries and the same thing happens with both of them. No matter what clearo I use - Vivi, Kanger Protank, bottom coil CE4, etc. - it tastes burned maybe 75% of the time. I do not take big long draws. I take little ones.

As for ohms, I have no idea. I just bought all the clearos and used them. It's pretty normal stuff, nothing fancy. It's just variations on the Apollo starter kit.

It's weird, because it wasn't like this for my first two weeks. I got a Kanger Protank and I used it for a few days, then it just fried my liquid. Really, it made me want to puke. Ever since then every clearo I use and every fluid burns roughly three quarters of the time. I've had to go back to my crappy V2 ciggy models with prefilled cartos.

I want to get a VV battery but the ones I've seen are too pricey for me right now. My fear is that I'll find a voltage that doesn't burn the liquid but is so low it doesn't give me much vapor.

Really I just want to know what is typically taken to be a dynamite setup that gives a good vape. By "good vape" I mean "Relatively little burning." I can deal with a lot of hassle, but three out of every four vapes making me nauseous is too much hassle.

So VV battery... and what tank? Where do I get it?

Sounds like you don't care for fiddly mods and accessories.
My suggestion is to try an Ego Twist, adjustable from 3.2 to 4.8 volts and a low resistance clearomizer, something around 1.8-2 ohms.
There are many voltage/ohm combinations that equal the same wattage output but *how* you get to that wattage is what matters.
Without getting into too much jargon, I'll keep it really simple, albiet, imcomplete:
3.2 volts @ 1.8 ohms = 5.6 watts output power
4.8 volts @ 4 ohms = 5.7 watts output power.

Both of them are pushing about the same power but I'm telling you from experience, that they do *not* behave or taste the same.
Complicating matters is that many people don't have the slightest idea what Ohms the devices they are screwing onto their mods are. This is an issue if you don't have a VV mod, but not nearly the problem if you *do*.
I use twists and advanced mechanical/rebuildable mods and I use my twist as much as any of my fancier ones.
Most of my Clearomizers are around 2.2-2.4 ohms and sometimes I get the odd 2 ohm one. No matter what I'm screwing onto my twist, I just adjust the dial until it's putting out what I'm used to/comfy with.

I prefer Discountvapers because they have a great selection and they're generally really cheap.
eGo Twist -900mah Variable Voltage - Stainless - Knurled Dial

The above is almost exactly what I use every day, and it's pretty fool proof.
As for the atty you use, I haven't been impressed with CE4s nor CE5s until I modified them and my modify I mean, I take off the drip tip, pull out the silicone cap that covers the coil and cut it a hair shorter so it allows more juice onto the coil.
If I don't do this, I get dry hits too often.
Carto tanks are pretty decent but more fiddly than you might want to mess with.
I hear great things about the EVOD, as well.

Kanger eVod bottom coil clearomizer - Black

I'm really wanting to try the protank :)

Good luck. Hope it helps!

I'm some what new to vaping and have gone through the same thing you are. I experimented with different clearos, batteries, Juices until I found a combination that works consistantly. The juice you are using can play a big part in the taste you are getting. I found the darker tobacco juices or overly chocolaty juices tend to give you that burnt taste or at least the conseption of a burnt taste even if it's not actually burning the juice. I would try somthing like an RY4 mixture and see if that starts to burn. I settled on the kanger T3 removable bottom coil cartomizer and original ego 650ma battery. I've been using the same clearo now for over a week and have not had a single dry hit or burnt taste. I can't say that for the CE4 type clearos. I noticed most my my burnt taste came from these. It is also important to clean the clearo's at least once a week. The T3's make this easy. Just screw of the bottom coil rinse under warm tap water or soak them for about an hour and let them dry over night. Screw it back on fill and vape. the coils are also sold individually so you can have one soaking while vaping with the other. Also stay away from the 510 mini clearos they deterate much faster. I know this is verry fustrating but keep at it and don't be discoraged. As a 40 year smoker its worth it in the end. I have resorted to mixing my own juices and there is pleanty of info here so that may be another option for you to explore if you can't find what your looking for.

Slow down your drag rate....translates like "hot boxing" a cigarette. Short pulls don't do you any good if you are pulling 10 times in a minute (not saying that you are.) I run at least 2 ego style batteries ALWAYS. I need both on my breaks at work. Try slowing down your drags per minute or alternate between batteries when vaping. Trying this is FREE. Just my :2c:

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

I don't have the packaging for my clearos, but I figure that people who know ohms know what a standard CE4 has. I used all three attys on my Vivi and the same thing happened with all of them. As for my juices, I have no idea what the PG/VG is. I just ordered a bunch from Fuzion Vapor. So whatever they use, that's what it is.

I can tell you all what happened this past week. I was using my new bottom coil CE4 from Apollo, and while it wasn't really burning, I was hardly getting any vapor out of it. A shame, because I had a couple of ciggys as a result. It just wasn't working. In a fit of frustration I pulled out a brand new CE4 and got really good vapor, and there were no problems for roughly a day. But at night it started to burn, and now, today, it's back to tasting burned about 75% of the time.

This cannot be due to not cleaning, because I just started using the damn things - literally hours ago. It is not due to hot boxing either, because I'll take one drag, wait 20 seconds, take another - burned.

Thanks motelgrim for the recommendation, I will try that - and thanks for getting specific and telling me what works for you. I just did not have a good experience with the pro tank; too metallic, and when it burns it tastes like fresh crap (not that I know what fresh crap tastes like... ehhh, quit while I'm behind).

This really sucks because in principle I love vaping. When it's good, it's really good. I went ten days without a cigarette. But the inconsistency is really bugging me out. I have not come close to finding something that "works" even remotely consistently (except V2s, and that's not good enough).

I've done most of the things people have recommended on here - spinning the device, mixing liquids, switching between two batteries (I always do that), taking shorter draws with lots of time in between, etc. That stuff didn't work, so it's boiled down to:

possible: ohms, for some reason, on my basic CE4s and Vivis; too much voltage from my batteries; bad PG/VG mix in my liquids.

As of now, I'm guessing it's a technical issue with voltage and ohms, so I'm going to try the set up, more or less, recommended to me by motelgrim and report back on that.

Thanks again to everyone for your support and help.
