I just dismantled it tonight for some cleaning, I just did some traditional wraps tonight with some 28AWG Kanthals...
The microcoil were a meh in my opinion. It turns the entire coil into one giant wrap, but it's the consistency that is the hardest.
It's very very hard to get most of the surface area between the coils to touch each other everywhere. The entire coil eventually do light up, but the vape isn't anything to be too excited about. I can't tell the difference between vaping it with micro coil or traditional.
However, from the electrical point of view, it is a bit less stressful on it. I was vaping it at about 7-8W (where I normally run my clearo), but with traditional wrapping that I did tonight, I'm vaping at about 10-11W(upper limit of the eVic).
I'll probably give the microcoil another shot tomorrow. I used to wind coils for my work, but that was a long time ago, I'm trying to remember a method I used to use to get really tight pretty coils (I used to wind air coils with magnet wires for electronic use)....
I believe I taped one end of the wire on a dowel/screwdriver shank, and used a cordless drill (it had one of those 1/4" bit to a universal chuck attachment you can get at Sears or other hardware stores) on very slow RPM (probably about 0.5Hz speed or less) and ended up with a nice clean tight wind. Will have to try that with Kanthals that I have... My only problem is, I have a cordless drill and not an electric screw driver (cordless drills were made for high RPM, electric screwdrivers were for low rpm)...
May have to revisit this technique again for the microcoil. I think maybe my feelings on it may be due to my poor workmanship on the coil...
