After running on only SS TC since FW 2.0 update with great success, I decided to try Ni mode again, just to see whether FW 2.0 has made any improvement with regards to the weak vape issue. Although at first it vaped superbly, I'm sad to report that the problem is still not corrected (at least for me). What's worst now is in SS mode, it won't ask me whether I have a new coil or not when changing different SS coil build tanks. I'm not sure whether its because of the stucked 510 pin or because I tried using Ni mode, but this made me want to get another mod. I just want a mod that'll work with Ni and SS reliably everytime.

My experience has been like this:

It will ask you for a new coil only if the resistance of the new coil is higher by some pre defined amount than the previous read resistance.

When i first put a build in it, it's too hot. Soon the temperature drops for the same setting, at this time it's either fine or if it's anemic, i unlock the res, pop the battery out, back in and re lock.
Somebody here said that this is due to the wire setting in, i'm no expert on metals and wires so i can't deny or confirm this.
The other time i sometimes get a weak vape is sometimes when changing room temperatures (like heated house -> outside). At that point i do the relocking again.
In any case, by doing things like this i have had no issues with SS or Ti in a long time. Never liked Ni so can't comment on that.

I just had the anemic vape issue with ti a couple of times. Since I upgraded to 2.0 never locked resistance again and haven't had any issue. I use a dual 0.19ohm 26ga ti on my bellus without locking res. When I change to a goblin mini dual ss316 dual 26ga 0.26ohm, select ss mode and it asks same/new coil, select new and vape happily, again without locking res. When I change back to the bellus, select ti mode and it doesn't asks new/same coil but as long as the coil is already cold (room temp) it reads the correct 0.19ohm and vapes like a charm ;)
New/same coil only pops when you put a higher res atty. The question is made just to make sure it's not the same coil but hot.

Correct. And the res lock is for when refilling a tank. If it's warm, but still close to rest res, it won't ask new/same. So that's the lock's function. In theory.
Refining the res down a couple hundredths is the screw up.
Even when filling I don't lock, I simply screw the tank after filling and when it asks new/same I select same. It shows the initial res and... Bam!! Back to happy vaping :D

Edit
Same thing when swap batts with hot resistance. It asks new/same coil and I simply select same.
The mod keeps the initial res in memory.
I find the lock option useless...

So i picked up a uwell crown today. I have been vaping the .25 SS coil in SStemp mode 400 deg which has been working great, imo better than the nickel mode BUT the damn refinement seems to run even more rampant in this mode, the sucker will refine down even sitting 10-15 min and then there's pretty much no vapor; which drives me up the friggin wall.

however, for my vaping style, i tend to binge chain vape for 20min -40 min at a time since we can't vape in the dorms here at school so ill just warm the coil to the room temp resistance and relock it in and she's good to go for a session.

now i could just vape in normal mode but i want to make these coils last as long as possible so temp mode it is.

but a concerning observation of the mod is that the fire button seems to be wearing out very quick as there is no noticeable clicking now which scares me that it's going to crap out on me since its getting mushy. Anyone else have this happening to them? I do have over 20,000 on the time in the month or two i've had it, which idk if thats an average usage or not because i do have 7 other mods i rotate through for day to day vaping.

As i've suggested before, try letting the coil cool to room temperature, unlock resistance, remove battery, put battery in, re lock resistance. It worked for me and others :)

Just set my wife and my own to TC with 316L for the first time today and had the same problem with the anemic vape on mine while my wife's has had no problem at all.
Using a .7 ohm build on both with the ohm's locked but after about an hour or so mine just would not produce any vape.....
Came on here found your suggestion and as I was reading I did it as you suggest and so far so good...awesome vape!!
Thanks for the heads up!!

Mine finally came after over a month in the ether (nice one Singapore Post).

Coming from the X-Cube II this is an absolute revelation. Upgraded and vaping 5 minutes after opening the box and vaping SS like a champ. The size and weight of this device is perfect for a portable mod, I was shocked at how tiny it is.

Makes me doubly glad I've ordered the Wismec Rouleaux rx200.

Finally got some SS 316L wire. Built some coils for my evic mini. I love it. TC is great with both spaced and contact coils. I've found that it performs best in TC if I keep my builds below .25ohms. I had one coil that refined to about .29 and it kept kicking me back to power mode. As long as I stay below .25 it's rock solid in TC. Rocking the velocity at .21 dual coil 40w 500 degrees, outstanding vape

Does spaced coils work better than contact coils when using SS?
Would using a spaced coil make it less prone to resistance changes maybe??
Just curious as I use contact coils and I've seen some post that spaced coils would offer a more stable resistance reading for the eVIC...just wondering!

I've had the VTC throw my contact coils out of temp mode but not my spaced coils. I haven't tried it in a while but after that happened with a couple SS contact coil builds I decided to stick with spaced coils. I can't say if it makes things more stable. I only vape in SS TC mode on both of my VTC Minis and it's been terrific. All of my builds are single coil in tanks at .5 ohms or higher so that may be a factor.

Just ordered mine a few hours ago and I'll be excited to hit this thread with my findings. :) I truly love the form factor, and the screen design of this mod is my favorite out of ALL other mid-wattage/TC mods on the market right now. I'm very excited to give this a go. Will report back with a review and my experiences in using temp control. ;) Thanks for all the help/advice in this great thread.

Thanks for the reply..
I have never used a spaced build as I've never used TC until I started with the eVIC MINI's this week and after searching a good bit I found no definitive finding that spaced was the go to over contact coil builds for TC with SS so I did the contact coils.
I found the anemic vape on mine first and then came here and found the post about letting the coil cool to room temp, unlock it, then remove the battery and reinstall and lock it in...and that worked fine for mine...it's now going on about 4o hours since I did the fix.
My wifes however has not fixed itself with the fix....so don't know if her's just has a glitch in the software that will not deregister and re-register the coil resistance as the first time.
I use Lemo II tanks on both mods with 316L SS 26ga running at 0.77 ohms.
I wanted to try it again this morning after it sat all night but it was the same...going into protection mode with weak vape.
So the I took my tank off and put in on her mod and it worked fine...just like on my mod.
I took her tank and put it on mine and.....yes..my mod was doing the same thing as her's....ITS IN THE TANK..NOT THE MOD!!
So I am going to recoil/wick and see how it goes. I do think I will try a spaced coil with her's this time as the contact coils are hard to work with as the SS is so soft...hard to work them to no hot spots without a lot of problems and then apparently the contact coils are so much more easily knocked out of whack when putting the wicking in and during use....

So I will try my hand a my first spaced coil and see if that works out better!!

Thanks guys for the input!

afaik all/most tc coils are spaced to keep a more accurate and/or stable resistance reading

That seems to be the case here...I guess I just got lucky with the build on mine...my wife's...not so lucky!!

Why do the manufactures not suggest that spaced coils are best for use in the TC mode....just seems it would help save a lot of headache/heartache!!

Thanks!

I do love the form, the feel and the screen...and when you get the coil build right....its an awesome working mod!!
Looking to hear how yours works out for you...hope as good as they can be!!
