Yep... I know newsgroups. (but afaik they don't work anymore)

They still work, and work great in fact. I too use Supernews, only it is resold by Newsleecher. $9.49 a month unlimited. Retention is 3000 days, and incompletes are not an issue.

Sound like some of you's are hard core pioneers of the internet. I got my first PC in 1999, but took to it pretty quick. So my walk down memory lane would be AOL & windows 98 :) :)
Ahh... those were the days... Timex Sinclair, Commodore, Kaypro, Osborne, and the Epson PX-8 (my first laptop). Still have them in storage and they have a total value of 2¢ on eBay today. And let's not forget those famous 300 baud modems with the phone cups. Hell there was almost no week that went by back in the 80's that I wasn't buying another game. :)

Ah yes Wildcat BBS was quite popular back then. The first BBS I recall was back in '78 called the Computerized Bulletin Board (CBBS). Written during the '78 Chicago's snowstorm by Ward Christensen who was a member of CACHE (the Chicago Area Computer Hobbyists' Exchange). I never joined, but I was an active user on his original CBBS and first ran on a S-100 machine. Both Christensen and Randy Suess ran and maintained it. Christensen also wrote XMODEM, what we all used to transfer binary files from one computer to another. Later we heard that NASA also adopted XMODEM to communicate in outer space.

While there was an Internet back then. Yes we had email and USENET. Usually through an university account (for free). But Fidonet seemed more popular back then. They too had a category of public messages and private. And a messages often traveled by hobbyists making scheduled calls to transfer them. One would call A, then A would call B, B would call C, etc. until it traveled completely around the world. And it could take up to 7 days for your message to travel around the world. Hahaha... today this happens in seconds on the Internet. :)

Well that's what I had been thinking till I switched from Astraweb to Supernews. I used Astraweb for about 10 years and they were great in the beginning but in the end too many incompletes. I don't think I've had even 1 block missing since I switched. I'm paying $10 mo. unlimited with Supernews.

They still work, and work great in fact. I too use Supernews, only it is resold by Newsleecher. $9.49 a month unlimited. Retention is 3000 days, and incompletes are not an issue.
WELL... I'll have to fire up Alt.binz and look at the server settings, I can't remember who I used.... I was a customer for years at $12/mo or so then got on a $99/yr promotion for like 20 connections(?) and unlimited bandwidth... And it worked great for a while. But after the incomplete I gave up. Looks like all I needed to do was change servers....

I got my first real computer in the early 80s...it was an Atari 800. Got involved in the local enthusiast club, made some buddies and away we went. Some had the cassette drive which the lucky had the 5.25 inch floppy disk. I had the 300 baud modem with the cups but that sucked because I listened to the radio too loud. (those of you who used them understand)

Then I got a 300 baud modem. Can't remember if that was the Hayes? Or was the 1200 baud the Hayes? (ATDT 8178441234) lol.

FoReM software for atari. (I think it stood for Friends of Rick e Moose)... Had friends all over, ran one myself...honeypot style. God that was a lifetime ago.

But I stayed with atari for a while eventually moving to the ST series before going to Macintosh, then finally got tired of never having software! Back then Atari, Mega ST, Amiga, and finally Macintosh was always the red headed step child with much better specs vs Intel based pc. But they had the OS! I got my first 486 which I resisted as much as possible but eventually saw the flood of software and never looked back.

Funny how things change, Apple and Macintosh was always the minority, lack of support, software was non existent except for very mainstream stuff (and sometimes even then), now a Mac is hip and cool... Having a mac makes you smart, have a "pc" makes you - well....?
Phones... My god, talk about a Monopoly! The iPhone, I mean how many people do you know that don't even consider other phone makers? Heck my whole family (brother, sister, nephews, sons, daughters, wife) all have iPhones! I'm odd man out with my note. Lol.

Yep, things have certainly changed... Sorry for the long post. It was fun to remember some of this in my head... My god 35+years ago.

Sounds like a few are regretting not having purchased more of them when they had the chance.
Yeah I am still kicking myself when I ordered one (red) and a spare battery (red). Later I thought at that price it would have been better just buying two Hotcigs. They still had some in stock too and I should have ordered another one anyway.

Then they were gone. I made myself feel better by ordering another battery (red). Later the red battery was sold out, so no new supply of DX200s yet, so I got another battery (black). I sure have a lot of batteries and I need more DX200s.

Was sort of hoping they would restock for the 4th of July Sale they still haven't announced as they still show the item on their sale page Sale | Ecig.com but is is probably just the Website Master Guy being lazy.

Just as well between the one I bought Memorial Day and the two I ended up with on the $55 sale I have more than enough in my Vape Armageddon stash.

Even though the DX is a bit clunky, I think I would have a lot of trouble gutting it for the board & battery. V1s maybe, V2s would be a bit harder.
