I don't know the term for the "bolt" in the red circle but a few minutes earlier I had already determined that it was hardly being pushed inward when the door closed. Then from the other side my wife points out why (she thinks) that it can't be opened using a credit card. This is where the video starts. Yes that old bald guy is me.
I have since fixed it by shimming the strike plate out 1/16".

Deadlatch Plunger. It should be engaged (pushed in) to prevent the top bolt from being pushed in with a credit card.

I’m not a locksmith, but have had a very extensive conversation with one after a break in. They didn’t shimmy the bolt open with a credit card, but brought tools to remove the entire door and made off with $50+k worth of CD’s along with various items to carry it all.

The real kick in the gonads was just a few days prior I canceled my car insurance (got rid of the car) and got into a dispute with the insurance company over the cost of remaining home insurance - so I canceled that as well with the intent of replacing it within a few days. Who would have thought I would experience a break in within that duration.

I suspect the thief was a friend of mine, or he informed others on the contents and how to break in. He conveniently disappeared after the break in.

On a regular latch where the plunger is in line horizontally with the latch itself it is important that the door not have enough play to let the plunger fall into the strike or else anything that can be inserted in there can push the latch back. From outside grab ahold of the handle and give a quick pull with all your might and if the plunger falls into the strike it's defeated. Of course 99.9% of house locks out there can be opened in seconds with a bump key or with an impact pick which can be DIY made out of a coat hanger and rubber bands (or a cheap battery tooth brush) so if they know what they are doing it's a moot point. Fortunately most that know what they are doing aren't thieves anyway.

You know we all pay attention to the locks when we go to replace one, and we do it without thinking about all the glass windows we have, which is easier to defeat? LoL.

Yeppers.
Why bother with maybe getting caught breaking into the front door (which is where people spend the most on locks) when you can slip around to the side of the house and go in through a window !

I'll have to find the yellow battery door for some good ole Black & Yellow. ;)
I always wanted a yellow door when the remainder was Black. :D

My Vt133 has just under 11,000 puffs currently.
84930 puffs and counting. 75K in TC, it is my beater mod so the others were dry firing, etc. Board was replaced once already, around the same puffs.

Dug out the old VT133 which was my first DNA mod, still an awesome performer.

I absolutely love the HCigar VT133. Two of mine are in silver and three in black. I have all of the color doors for them as well. Sadly one of them the Battery Management chip went south in it too. But they are pretty easy to work on. And I love how easy it is to swap out the batteries. Odd you don't find mods like this anymore. If I remember correctly, they only made 10,000 of them.

Dear Mike.......and to all people who like "thorny" "prickly" bushes.

I hate it when i have to service or change out an AC condenser / heat pump that is surrounded by natures hypodermic needles. When trying to service your unit (haha....unit. Ya i have the mentality of a 13yr old) I am continuously fighting your shrubbery from stabbing and slashing my eyeballs, arms, legs and various other soft fleshy parts of my body.

I get it, you hate the neighbor and his kids, but don't take it out on the guy who's fixing your AC!

Similar to the weird fact that razor grass's natural habitat is around electrical transformers and disconects and that razor grass's most feared enemy is the sawsall.

Here's something to consider, when we had the house painted the painters wrapped old moving blankets around the house side of the bushes, drove a post in the ground in front, put some rope around the blanket and bush, tied the rope off to the post leaving them enough room to paint. If you're dealing with a real long thin needle bush you might need to double the blankets up. You can buy those at Harbor Freight $8.89 --> 72 in. x 80 in. Moving Blanket Below is a 20% Off coupon good till the end of the year.

This is good for one item per visit/day. I use to print 9 of these to a sheet, cut them out and keep them in my glove box, now I put these coupon pics on my cell phone and they scan the bar code right off my phone.
