Go into the BIOS Setup and try this.

MSI r9 270 - no display after installing

If the BIOS doesn't know it is there, Windows won't see it either.
When I get home I'm going to change the power supply and put the card in. If it doesn't work I'll pull the card and set the bios to both and check. (and put the card back in and check)
I hope I don't get nailed by the power supply's capacitor when I clean out the dust.

Checking your Synergy only means check your compatibility.
@dwcraig1 When you got your PC it came with a "matched" set of components, (synergy) why are you straying from that setup? What are you trying to achieve? Does the PC work well with the Original set of matched components? My son seems to think, if you add in a new component with out checking if it will work well with the rest of your set up, this is causing your problems.

Short answer, they built it with the components that I chose. I'm just adding a power supply (should have had them put a better one in when assembled) and video card. The fact that there is a problem using the video card is bugging me. I don't do any gaming just video conversion ect.

So after changing the power supply and putting in the ATI card there was still no video not even at POST so I then tried the Nvidia card. With the Nvidia card the computer would boot straight into Windows with no Gigabyte splash screen so not able to enter bios, ect.
So now I'm using the on chip video and all works correctly. The onboard video was set to automatic the whole time, I never got around to setting it to both.
I'm left with wanting to try both of these video card in another computer.

Using "better search phrase" I have now found the answer to solve the problem, one of them anyway.

Here is a pic of my setup.
CSM Support.JPG

I will have to wait till when I come home from work in the morning to try this.
CSM = compatibility support module

Well I just couldn't wait till in the morning. That worked like a charm. The ATI video card didn't work but the Nvidia card did. I suspected that the ATI card was bad. Strange thing though Windows Update was quick to grab the drivers for the ATI card that was removed and installed them so I downloaded their utility to remove them.
With the Nvidia card the computer quickly boots to the splash screen first.
All is well again for now till I find something else to "fix"
