Got a call from the fraud dept at my bank this morning, someone got my debit card info and tried to charge up a bunch of stuff. They narrowed it down, I got gas in town, two hours later there was another charge for $75 even at the same gas station and then after that about a half dozen more at stores and websites. Thankfully they stopped all charges, all I had to do was go to my local bank and get a new temporary debit card. This is the second time in the last year this has happen on my debit card. Bass-tards! :-x

amazing! usually, fraud detection on debit cards is lagging ....

Yeah, NBT Bank, they've been great at catching them both times. I didn't have any money deducted and didn't need to dispute anything on paper, just by phone. Pain in the .... as it is I'm real happy how they handled it, it could have been a real hassle. All I could think of was being long way from home on a trip or vacation where there were no NBT branches, go to use my card and find there's no money in the bank!

Sitting down, facing forward.
I have a BoA Visa card and it's been "breached" five or six times in the last four years. Three times BoA called me about it and the other times I've called them. Never had a charge actually go through and each time I am sure it happened from various vape related purchases I've made on line. BoA has done an excellent job, so far anyway. I use cash for just about everything I buy locally, I don't trust gas stations, especially, with credit card info and cash machines are just as bad.

I suspected online vape purchases last time, but when she told me that shortly after I used my card at the gas pump for $20, withing a couple of hours, a $75 charge was made inside at the checkout at the same gas station and all other bogus charges happen after that, well that kind narrowed it down LoL. I just hope they can catch the person that did it, they pretty much know where it happen, but proving it and who actually did it......

but they would have needed an actual card, wouldn't they? can a copy be made that fast?

btw to be on the safe side - all who entered the contest mark your entries: round 8 - #1, and round 8 - #2 - edit will be your friend ;)
not sure evan from hg would really disqualify a post for that reason but better safe than sorry!

Well I submitted my 2 entries. (a dna75 mod and a target mini kit) even though I don't expect to win. I will say I hope whomever does win enjoys it. It's always FUN to play ;)

That's what I asked, wouldn't they have to grab the info and make a card? She told me no, all they need is the info then run it as a charge. She said the store can accessed the card info even if you pay at the pump. Now I can't swear that's true, I don't know about this stuff, just repeating what she told me. And actually looking back, I'm surprised she told me as much as she did. I did ask her if the Netflix charge was made at one of those vending machines, we have two in town. I thought they may have camera's in them and maybe they could pull up a pic of the person that used it but she said it was an online charge attempt to Netflix.

I pay by credit card at the pump and then pay the bill at the end of the month. Where I live, most gas stations have you enter your 5 digit zip code after you swipe. But thieves have those card readers that just slip over the card slot too. But I guess they can't capture your keypad entry of your zip code.

Any banker's here that know this stuff? They use to be able to enter the card number's if it wouldn't swipe from a bad strip, I don't know if they can still do that, if they can I assume that's how they did it. I don't know, the damn crooks are smarter then me that's for sure.
