You got a new machine? Pics please

I think you're seen everything about the Tormach haven't you? I still think of it as "new" even though I've had it for about a year now. It has proven far more challenging than I ever imagined and there is a LOT to learn ... especially for a guy no one ever considered very "handy" and who's entire tool collection was a few screwdrivers, a hammer and cordless drill about 3 years ago.

I post all of my photos on imgur so you can see everything I've been up to there and I'm always happy to answer any questions.

Not yet ... hopefully soon ... I have my eyes intently focused on the Tormach Slant Bed lathe. It will be in the garage at some point. Still have the goal to make my own rda and it would be great to make my own 510 connectors too.

jonnie, that machine could do your gripper design (without straps)?

Some of the 3D printed designs are a bit difficult to translate to 3 or even 4 axis CNC machining. You can get away with design "murder" using the SLS 3D printers since the material is self supporting due to the printing process. All that said, I want to revisit some of the previous designs and see what can be done if the 75 turns out to be a solid board. I love the recessed/shielded atomizer/side by side/whatever you call it look so I'll probably attempt something like that in the future.

We shall see what the future holds! I've got another 2 week eastern european trip coming up at the end of May so I'll be pushing hard for the next couple of weeks on the M4. Once I get the final operations on those finished there will be a little bit of room to explore ideas for the 75. I can do green ... any color actually ... now that I'm casting my own resin blanks and planning to stabilize wood too.

That 85% efficiency for the dna75 is low. The dna25 was 92%. The ability to use Escribe and multiple TCRs is certainly enough advantage over the older generation dna chips but I don't like the decrease in efficiency.

On another topic. It is getting harder to justify home building from an economic standpoint. The days of a premium for a Hana dna30 are long gone. You only need to build if nothing on the market suits your needs. For most people the commercial devices suit their needs at a reasonable price. I think this is one attraction of squonking. It is well suited to home building and major modification. That is one of the attractions for me. There are good commercial squonkers but we are back to the waiting lists and premium prices. I have to design and build my own bottom feeder mods to satisfy my needs for a reasonable price.

I just like "built not bought", its not really a financial decision for me.

Computers have gotten so cheap that it is hard to justify DIY there too, but I have built every desktop/server that I have owned in the last 30 years. Yeah, nowadays I could get one cheaper if I went to Dell, but I still like selecting the best components for my needs, and sorting out all the idiosyncrasies myself. When it breaks I "know" how to fix it!

Sitting down, facing forward.
I look at the commercial stuff out there and some of it does look really nice and the prices are fairly reasonable. Then, I start digging into them and usually the 510 connector does me in. I'd rather build myself and know exactly what went into it, like oversizing the battery and atomizer wire sizes and the 510 connector being exactly what I want. Yeah, my machining skills are not the best, but at least I know every last mm of the mod and what went into it. In fact I just ordered three extruded enclosures for some more low tank, or side by side, mods. These have a 23.8mm internal width so they'll take an Aromamizer without any problems.

Yeah, as I said, that design is the best "in the pocket" mod I have/made. I actually have 4 of them built, there's an issue with charging on 1, and 1 of them has the blasted screen scramble thing going on. Btw, whoever that guy was on Shapeways complaining that more space was needed because his battery was contacting the chip didn't know what he was talking about, there was plenty of room. I suspect his battery holder wasn't properly seated. The rounded corners of the first design were better, however the twin "straps" help with being able to view juice level.
