Well I finally crawled out of the cave, switch my account from my flip phone to the wife's hand me down smart phone today. Took three phone calls before I found someone in India who actually knew how to successfully make the switch, they ended up nicking me for $10 that I shouldn't have had to pay, I just got sick of spending my time arguing with them, at least it's done with and working now.

Hey, he's ahead of Tibs......
Probably ahead if me too. I'm in a very remote area like Tibs. I only have connection with one AT&T tower and my connection bounces back and forth between 1 bar of 4Glte and 3 bars of 4G. My speed tests can range 1.5Mb-15Mb download speeds and .1Mb-3Mb upload speeds.
Not the greatest but way better than that HughesNet crap we had.

Sitting down, facing forward.
Welcome to the 21st Century, Willie. Now, you too can walk around with your eyes glued to your smart phone and fall into fountains, off curbs and onto train tracks. I went, kicking and screaming, ahead of you, back in October or November. I was tired of over paying Verizon for a dumb phone. I'm now on my second smart phone. I was able to just swap out the SIM card and keep right on going with no problems. To be honest, there are one or two features that a smart phone offers that are OK, but I can't see it as my primary, or day centric, device by any stretch. Just another "toy" in too many ways.

I can't see myself getting too into it too deep, I'm hooked badly into using my desktop, I even watch 90% of my TV on it. Going from that to a smartphone for main usage isn't appealing to me. The two reasons I switched go back to when I had my auto damage appraisal business about seven years ago, I had made a laptop cradle rig like the police use and I used the laptop while driving. I had maps software and a GPS that ran in the laptop, I also had an aircard for the laptop so I had internet where ever there was a signal. I've been missing having a GPS and internet while away from home, not that I need it a lot these days but it sure is handy now and then. What took all that gear and expense then I now have in this little smartphone and at only $25 every two months, I was paying $25 every three months for the flip phone so this is only $50 more a year for what I'm gaining, pretty good deal.

Hey, Willie. An app you might like and even find useful, once in a while, is "Scanner Radio". I was going to buy a nice, trunking, scanner, but the app replaces a $500 scanner and lets you listen nationwide.

Ohhh, gotta check that out! Thanks!

I want to thank whoever it was that mentioned the Lansky Knife Medic the other day. I ordered one from Amazon the other day and it works pretty well restoring blades that have been "abused". Put an edge on my pocket knife that goes through that $&@$^ hard plastic wrapping like it isn't eve there, from the tip to the base of the blade. Best $12 investment I've made in a while!

They are a leash, far more of a choke chain than even the old Pagers used to be.

My smart phone is my everything. The only thing I use my desktop for is Cad programs, spreadsheets and advanced photography editing.
I pay $95 a month for my cell phone and service but I don't have to buy or keep track of a lot of other gear I need for my business. Just having a Camera, Phone, Internet, GPS, and a Flashlight easily justifies the cost. Add to that Email, Texting, Spirit Level, Angle Finder, Compass, Calculator, Quick Office, Astronomy app, Basic pic editing, RC Simulator and more it's hard for me to imagine life without it.

Sent from my smart phone.

I keep notes, take pics for estimates that are worth a thousand words, keep instant contact with my employees, vendors, contractors, and VPN into my network when necessary. I hated pagers back in the day... had to stop, pack up, and go find a pay phone. Life was simpler without cell phones, but not as productive.

When I was a young man I'd look at this on my shirt and think "yep"
Nowadays with the wife I got the only retirement I see is 6' under.
