I sent an email to voice my concerns over the new legislation comming for
vaping here in Canada.
Specifically for the up comming flavour ban. To my surprise I got a response today

Looks like we are taking a much more liberal approach to
vaping here in Canada.
I see whats going on all over the world now & want to wave our flag
Here's my email & the response I received.
Hi
My name is Peter I'm 55. I was a life long smoker & had a hard time trying to quit!
A few years back I discovered
vaping, it was a life changer for me!
I was able to quit smoking permanently for the first time since I was a youngster!
All thou I'm 55. I still like Candy & Sweet flavouring for my E-Juice.
A wide variety of flavourings is what keeps it fresh for me, If I get board with a flavour I can just switch to another.
In my opinion Children are not being targeted by the flavouring.
I see vaping as harm reduction, I would never encourage any one to try it, If they were not try to quit smoking.
Even if it's not 100% safe, We know for sure it safer than smoking!
There are too many smokers, we seriously need the number reduced!
Vaping can do that! But why regulate the types of flavouring? Adults like Candy to.
I really hope my Government, will see the benefits of letting people quit smoking, with E-Cigaretts Even if the choose to use Candy flavoured Juice.
Thanks
Peter
Dear Peter,
Thank you for your email of April 28, 2017, concerning the regulation of vaping products. I apologize for the delay in responding.
First, I would like to congratulate you on quitting smoking. It is indeed the single best thing you can do to improve your life and health.
As you may know, on November 22, 2016, the Government introduced Bill S-5, An Act to amend the Tobacco Act and the Non-smokers’ Health Act and make consequential amendments to other Acts. The proposed legislation would establish a new approach to regulating vaping products and includes measures that would support the implementation of plain and standardized packaging for tobacco products. This legislation is a key element of the Government’s overall tobacco control agenda, which also includes banning menthol in most tobacco products and modernizing Canada’s approach to tobacco control.
Bill S-5 responds to the recommendations of the Standing Committee on Health’s report entitled
Vaping: Toward a Regulatory Framework for E-cigarettes, which received all-party support. Bill S-5 aims to protect youth from nicotine addiction and inducement to tobacco use, while allowing adults, particularly adults who smoke, to legally access vaping products as a less harmful alternative to tobacco.
Vaping products are currently available in a wide variety of flavours. It is the promotion of certain flavours such as confectionery and dessert that Bill S-5 proposes to prohibit, as current evidence suggests they may be more appealing to youth. The proposed legislation would provide legal access to adults to such flavoured products as it is recognized that flavours make vaping products palatable to adults seeking a less harmful alternative to tobacco.
Bill S-5 was introduced in the Senate. It will be studied and debated as it moves through the legislative process. Should the proposed legislation receive Royal Assent, requirements for vaping products would be further elaborated in regulations. We encourage interested parties, such as yourself, to comment on the regulatory proposal when it is pre-published in the
Canada Gazette, Part 1.
Once again, congratulations on quitting smoking and thank you for taking the time to share your views on this important issue.
Sincerely,
Roberta Acason
