Yep, my father's the same way. If I had cut my finger off he would have told me to hold it on until it grew back together.
Yeah, not my favorite person, & my mom & my siblings want nothing to do with him anymore, but all he ever did to me was beat the crap out of me, I never considered him my father & so I have no deep emotional scars like my two siblings, & I owe him for a lot he taught me how to take engine's and transmissions apart and put them back together, and more importantly spent a lot of time teaching me about hardware configurations, Unix, Linux etc, mostly for his benefit bc I had built all the servers he was using, but I probably wouldn't be working in the field I am if it wasn't for him, and I'll never have to pay someone to fix my car unless I really wanted to.

Unfortunately he never spent any time teaching my little bro, who is his biological son, any of that stuff, I mostly stay out of their stuff bc I'd like to preserve the little bit of respect for him I'd have left.

Sorry to hear about the abuse Kiba. Thing is, I learned a lot from mine too, like how not to raise a family. His grandfather and father were the same way but I broke that chain with my family. My son and daughter our following in our footsteps raising their kids so hopefully the abuse will not resurface with future generations.
These days I get along with my father ok but at a comfortable distance, both geographical and emotional. Sad, it shouldn't be that way.

Man it breaks my heart to hear these stories, in my book the worse thing one can do is rob a kid of their childhood. Sorry you guys have that burden of the past for something that wasn't your fault. Take pride in how you each made the choice to break that chain and live right, God Bless You, seriously.

I've had troubled times in my past too but of my own doings when I was older, I saw the hurt I was causing those who loved me and I made changes. I carried the guilt with me for a long time, it was my burden, I earned it. After many many years had past the guilt became a wall, I finally decided I had paid my dues and it was time to put that bag of rocks down, I don't carry them anymore.

Don't carry the past too far, set that bag of rocks down and move on with your life.

These days I just feel bad for him, his whole family doesn't want to be around him & it must be miserable... my brothers situation sucks bc he was an unwanted pregnancy, my sister was always the favorite & he didn't want another kid but it was ultimately my mom's choice... So he grew up with his father resenting him & he never taught my brother the things he taught me. To me that's worse than any asskickings he gave us... my brother will forever be inept w/ a computer while his father is a technical genius, it's one of the few things he had to offer. Shame really.

I look at it in a different way, there's a lot I learned from him. even indirectly, I have 10 years of thai boxing now bc I got tired of having my ... kicked.

Encourage your brother to learn those things, I self taught myself computers, I did it because I refused to pay someone else to fix them for me. Wasn't long and I was building my own, other then a couple I've built and upgraded all my desktops.

As far as cars, he can start with the simple things, changing oil, brakes, belts and hoses and from there he'll build knowledge and confidence. Got to jump in there and do it, make the mistakes, that's how you learn. Now that I not working as a mechanic I use ALLDATAdiy.com Leading Source of Factory Automotive Repair Information for all my repair manuals, these are factory manuals, not aftermarket. Every step is laid out with pictures, diagrams and troubleshooting flowcharts and even factory recalls and service bulletin updates. If you can read then you can fix it! They always have discount codes, you can search for them and once signed up they will email you renewal codes, I always pay about $13 to renew or add another vehicle. Here's one I just found, $20 for the first manual, code DIYDISCOUNT

The LLC will come in handy for getting wholesale accounts with certain vendors as well.

Is that like incorporating? Here in Ontario if your starting a business it's wise to incorporate :)
It protects your personal assets, just incase some thing goes real wrong with the business
If you register your truck in the numbered companies name they can't tell who it belongs to by running the plate :) Your anonymous, the plate comes up registered to the Company & they can't find out who own the company with their in Car computer :)

"A limited liability company is the United States-specific form of a private limited company. It is a business structure that combines the pass-through taxation of a partnership or sole proprietorship with the limited liability of a corporation"
