The days of grabbing all the AOL disc's I could find and Mom complaining, "I can never get you guys on the phone" She really wasn't happy when I turned Dad onto ebay as a new way to sell his antiques, Mom and Dad had an antique's business. But she changed her tune after a couple months when the money started rolling in, we even got her into emailing, pretty soon she was emailing instead of calling and their line was always busy. :matrix:

#1 are you using wifi? #2 are you using their supplied modem/router combo? The only problem I had with fios is the modems they make you use are terrible, you get to choose between a dual band with a single antenna, or a 2.4 with two antennas... when I had fios I disabled everything and just used my own router.

Yes and yes

That's good enough for streaming, if you can convince her, I'd ditch the cable & just get stuff you actually want to watch... I pay about 75/mo for internet/netflix/Hulu/amazon and some other stuff. Sometimes I'll pick up PS vue or sling on a deal or something but never for very long bc we never end up using it... 90% of what I watch is on Netflix and Amazon Prime... The awesome thing is you'll never have to mess with a dvr again, you get to pay for what you want, and watch it when you want.

The problem with switching is the wife HATES learning how something new works and if it involves pressing more then a few buttons to get what she wants she starts to get lost. So having multiple sources to switch to and bounce through will cause her frustration which equals a lot of misery for me...... I'm mr. fix-it, when something doesn't work right or she forget's how to work it I "hear about it", I'm expected to jump up and "fix it" john on the spot. So I have to consider, how much money will I save versus how much aggravation will I bring on myself......

Then your internet is more than fast enough. In fact, I doubt you would notice the difference if the speed were reduced by 75%.

Except for those rare moments when you really want to watch that video on facebook or youtube
and it takes forever to buffer.

If we cut her 50 mpbs connection by 75%, she'd still have 12.5 mpbs left. This should not cause buffering problems with YT or FB vids.

Surprise, it shouldn't but it does! If Verizon is in any way similar to Comcast (they are) both Facebook
and youtube specifically will slow wayyyy down and take forever to buffer. Anything under 25Mbps will suffer and the problem is more political in nature than technical. The same problem does not manifest on flick sites like Vimeo or chatforums other than FB.
ATT Uverse at 12Mbps works much better for either FB or youtube than do Comcast or Verizon at any bandwidth under 18Mbps.

A couple of month ago I finally cut my cable. Due to NNTP and streaming to the TV my data limit was almost hit (1Tb).
They would charge $10 per 5Gb exceeded. I could add another 500 Gb to my limit for $30 or unlimited for $50. I seen an offer on their site for cable including box and 4 premium channels for $39.95 for 24 months and put it in my cart.
The next morning I called them and since I already had their internet I got an even better deal.
So last Saturday I went back to cable. Data use problem solved.
Edit: So in the end I have pretty much the same thing as I had before I cut the cable TV but at $100 less. (I have more now, the 4 premium channels)

DNA75 has a hardware cutoff of 2.5 volts, the software cutoff can be set as low as 2.65 volts. When cutoff is hit the board reduces output to maintain setting. From what I have seen most problems arise from board not getting power from battery due to poor connection between battery and board. Of coarse the battery has to be up to it first. I set mine CSC at 2.75v but I don't use it at 75 watts. I did do some testing at 75 watts back when this problem first surfaced.

Reminds me of going to my Fathers house years ago and seeing all those AOL disc's hanging on fishing line above his garden.

"Free high tech pie pans" he said.

Don't know if I could deal with ARJ'ed + RAR'ed + Zipped Tar files in 500 chunks again...

And waiting for someone to repost part 4XX/500 because it won't unrar.

Or have things evolv'd any? Is GetDiz still the .NFO reader of choice and what are .PAR files?

PAR files are the redundant file used to authenticate and repair/replace the zip files.
QuickPar for Windows
there's also a Mac version.
I use NotePad to view NFO's, gotta tell Windows to always use it.
