Jeez, you guys are up early, it's my day off, woke up to this...

https://gizmodo.com/e-cig-vapor-tested-positive-for-lead-and-arsenic-in-new-1823235170

Gizmodo is pretty legit & high profile, a lot of people are going to see that. BTW it talks about a John's Hopkins study... Is that a new one or are they just referencing the one done with ce4's a long time ago?

edit, nvm published on Feb. 21st

"Puzzling too is the presence of arsenic, since unlike the other toxins they detected, it isn’t part of the composition of the coils typically used in e-cigarette devices. That suggests, the researchers said, that it’s being produced by the heating process itself."

I would like to hear what a chemist has to say about this. I am not a chemist, but I am staying at a Holiday Inn the next 2 days so I call bull hockey. Arsenic is an element not a compound. From my Physics background I am fairly certain that unless somehow (IE alchemy as I am fairly certain it's not nuclear energy) something is transmuting one element to another the arsenic has to come from somewhere it's not being produced. Perhaps the ambient air being used in the study?

Any chemists want to chime in, I have been wrong before and will be again. @Kurt

Yeah both the arsenic and lead have me confused. In the other thread, one guy said he thought it might be from the paint (I've thought about that before & one of the reasons I never order black or w/e tanks, also I've always wondered about the people assembling them, & if they know or care very much about what they are being used for) , Mike had said maybe from chineseum replacement coil covers.

Sitting down, facing forward.
Without knowing a lot of specifics, like wire types, atomizer types, wick materials, operating temperaure (not watts or volts) and liquid components, it's kind of hard to do anything other than generalize with no real basis for informed conclusions from that study. Since lead and arsenic are elements, they sure weren't "created" by heating and had to come from a direct source. That seems to be ignored in the study although I admit to not reading the whole thing.

I'm no chemist either, but I'm quite certain that an element cannot be produced by any heating process short of what's found in the deep interior of a star.

zomg Netflix is 100x easier than cable. My grandma loves it (set her up w/ a couple of fireTV's and saved her $100/mo). Plus your days of scrolling through some arbitrary schedule, finding shows to record are over, once it's set up you use a maximum of 4 buttons to operate it, literally just hold down a button, speak to Google assistant (in my case, but fire TV's have Alexa) and tell it what you want to watch, all the shows you like/are watching are conveniently displayed at the top, & when you select one, it takes you right back to where you left off. All of them (hulu/Amazon etc.) are setup pretty much the same too... if you want to, give it a go for like a month (they're pretty cheap compared to what you've got) & see how it goes.

There's also something else to consider, psvue/sling, which I dabble in occasionally, are set up very much the same as cable, even have a built-in dvr but cost ~$25/mo.

It's also great (I use Nvidia shields) for controlling my phillips hue and nest thermometer but that's just an added bonus.

My daughter got my wife into Netflix, I bought the wife a Ruko for the TV that has the voice search, I set it up to go right to Neflix she really likes it. I've had Amazon Prime for some time but never looked at the video's available, I got it pruely for the fast free shipping. Last night I logged onto Prime and was surprised how much they have, I found a ton of movies and shows I bookmarked for myself (The Soprano's! Yah!!), I'll add the account to the wife's Ruko device and let her play with it, I'll be really surprised if she isn't happy with it.

With an antenna I can get about six local stations, I tried it on a cheap little indoor antenna a year ago, think I'll buy a big one and put it up in the attic, that would take care of some of the news channels I know she would miss. I looked into the Sling last summer but when I proposed it to her then she didn't want let go of the cable, now she's getting closer, with these options to cover bases she may be ready to let go. Maybe this will be the start of us finally cutting the cord! Thanks for the advice!

Yeah I love Amazon, it has all that sci-fi stuff that I love... & you can get a ton of channels with antenna, probably more than what you think & most of them look pretty good, that's one thing that I forgot about, we have one that's up the side of the condo, we never really use it but we have it bc why not

Study: Lead and other toxic metals found in e-cigarette 'vapors'

"For those asking questions about the latest study on metal emissions from e-cigarettes, here is my comment:
The "significant amount" of metals the authors reported they found were measured in ug/kg. In fact they are so low that for some cases (chromium and lead) I calculated that you need to vape more than 100 ml per day in order to exceed the FDA limits for daily intake from inhalational medications. The authors once again confuse themselves and everyone else by using environmental safety limits related to exposure with every single breath, and apply them to vaping. However, humans take more than 17,000 (thousand) breaths per day but only 400-600 puffs per day from an e-cigarette."

Farsalinos & his blanket statements, lol, I do know a few people that vape a 30ml bottle a day though, so I'm sure there is some crazy person out there (probably a dripper) who's vaping 100... also I'd like some more info on his math & how he "calculated" that? (total material, somehow a quantifiable amount of aerosolized vapor, arbitrary # of mL's, not to mention devices or vaping style) idk... seems like he's just guessing again, if Mike says it's possible, then I'll believe it.

I'm not going to get too excited until I read more about this. When I was diagnosed with throat cancer I got opinions from two oncologists, one a leading teaching doctor at Upstate University in Syracuse, NY. I feared I had harmed myself by vaping, both doctors told me no, vaping doesn't cause cancer, it was the forty years of smoking. Next I asked them if I could continue to vape during the radiation treatments and they told me yes I could. I had to go for treatments every day for six weeks, I would vape on the way there, when done walk out to my truck and pick up my mod and I chain vape. Just had another checkup a couple days ago, the cancer is gone and two years out I continue to be cancer free. One thing I know for sure, if I hadn't stopped smoking by taking up vaping when all else failed, I know I wouldn't be here now. If there is something to these tests, then it will be repeatable and proved true, until then I'm not going to change a thing. That's my :2c: and about all it's worth, if that. :)

BTW, if you haven't tried the juice Broke D has your really missing out, I was very skeptical with the dirt cheap prices but I have to say, they have some damn fine flavors. Out of the five I've tried two I didn't care for, but three have now become my favorite juices, the Water Cup being the best, man is it good! Two 120ml bottles shipped for $23, that's cheap vaping! They make and sell a ton of it so it's not pre-steeped, you need to open the bottles and let them set a few days but for the price it's worth the wait. I vape at 18mg, the highest they offer is 6, I adjust the nic when I get it and let it steep for 3-4 days.
Water Cup (120ml) My #1 fav
PrePaid (120ml) #2 fav, almost as good as water cup
Payday (120ml) #3 fav, very tasty, I'm not much of a desert flavor guy but it's in my rotation.

These are two I didn't care for
Overdraft (120ml)
The 15th (120ml)

Oh yeah, forgot to add, it smells good too. My wife and daughter both said my office smells good, they were surprised when I told them it's my new ejuice. :)

I and some buddies picked up one of these ( https://www.amazon.com/Ivation-150-...+amplified+outdoor+antenna+with+mounting+pole) and went from around 8 with an indoor antenna to 64 (towers are 40-70 miles).
I tried out all the streaming services except you tube which the Amazon/google feud wouldn't let the app on Fire TV. Really liked Directv Now but no cloud DVR.
Really liked Hulu Live TV but missing some needed channels, Sling had a great format but limited the channel selection. For me Playstation Vue was the best, great channel selection and intuitive format/ layout, unlimited cloud DVR storage, instantaneous video with no lag/buffering and a $40 price tag.
There is so much free quality video content available no wonder the cable/satellite companies are seeing a massive exodus.

That sucks that Google did that with YouTube, I still don't understand what good it does to punish the fire TV users? the ones I use (Nvidia shields) I can confirm for sure come with Amazon Prime video pre-installed & ofc you can dl YouTube from the play store (I did order my ones from Amazon though, so idk if that has anything to do with it). Also you'll get Google assistant & If you get the Amazon apk, it also should be possible to sideload it as well, but Google really doesn't want youtube on firetv so idk of a workaround for that besides looking at it in the browser, that's too hard to use for my grandma though... In the meantime she's watching her cat videos on her Mac.
