I gave up on coffee at my gf's orders, this thread always makes me think of it... I miss it sometimes, but she got rid of our keurig & sold my nice espresso machine to one of her friends for like, half what I paid for. yesterday I did have myself an espresso from the starbucks downstairs. These days I buy the white can monster zero's & just drink half of it, I actually do like the caffeine from the monsters better (as long as I only drink half) bc it lasts longer but it's just not the same as those nice hot double espresso latte that I used to make for myself. The only thing that survived was my brand new milk frother, which I hid during the great coffee purge of '017...

btw does anyone know anything about printers? Ours died the other day & my knowledge of printers is from like 1997 which I thought lasers were best. I have this rule, or tendency I guess where I never get an older technology once a new one is introduced, & my buddy says the new best thing is you squirt the ink directly into the printer, but there's a crap load of them online & they all seem the same to me.

What? Your gf made you quit coffee? Man it might be time to look for a new gf. ;)
Yeah, not caffeine though just coffee. She also forced me to watch that doc about how the beans are festering with toxins & mold or w/e. But you know how it is I had heard all that crap before I just didn't care.

How does she feel about green beans (that is what they call unroasted coffee beans)? I buy already roasted beans, but the best flavor and freshness I hear tell are green beans then later roasted and wait to like 6 to 18 hours longer (it depends on the beans), grind them (with a burr grinder which I use) and then make coffee. I hear tell like three thousand chemical reactions are happening and the flavor is just absolutely the best (beans dependent of course).

Roasting coffee beans is really easy. Even an oven works or an air popcorn popper (but those that are really into it use something better). I never roasted coffee beans myself (but that is my next step). Once you get coffee beans afterwards after roasting it (like 30 hours or more later) is all dead and they say and all of the chemical reactions are totally gone and not the same.

I do African Chiclids, they are very colorful, but also very tolerant. For example they tolerated the 10 degree temperature swing just fine, where SW fish wouldnt have.
You must have a big tank I'm guessing? I have one freind who's whole basement is full of tanks & I like to go over & stare at them, sometimes I help w/cleaning & that's enough for me to remember I don't need one... cichlids I've seen are pretty big. What colors are they btw, I've heard they are kind of aggressive, eat other fish, plants, each other etc. Never seen it happen in person though.
Man that is tough. I hope she is worth it. :) I am not sure if I could do that.
Trust me I still get my caffeine, there's times a person just needs to have caffeine. just don't drink it as often or in coffee form

No I never tried roasting it myself, I was told it doesn't make a big enough difference, or to make any kind of difference you'd have to roast it before each grind, or each cup etc. I used to get coffee by the roast, Kenya AA and lake Abaya are my faves. Breville barista express. It's at my freinds place now [emoji52].

Hey anyone here tried going through the trouble of getting your local paper to drop you? I feel like someone is delivering trash to my house for me to throw away. It was in the previous guy's name and now somehow it's in mine, I can only assume that like the security system he had it switched to mine. Spent an hour on the phone with Washington Post & somehow ended up with a 6 month sub.

Wow that is a bit shocking actually. I really don't think I could given up with what you have done.

I buy all my beans green, roast them myself, then grind them just prior to brewing.

I have found that some deserve as much as a 3 day rest to taste their best, but as you say, it is bean dependent. They are never at their best straight out of the roaster, at the least you have to let the C02 gas off before brewing them.

I highly recommend Green Coffee Buying Club - Index for getting green beans. It is a co-op style venture and the offerings are great.

150gal tank, with an elaborate filter system to keep the maintenance factor down. Plus a 30gal shrimp tank used as a veggie-filter to absorb nitrates.

For those who had a clear sky this morning, am I the only one that thought it was an unusually bright sunrise? Or is it just the effects of a long winter? I walked out the back door that faces the east just as the sun cleared the hill and holy cow, it was so bright it hurt my eyes, I was letting the dogs out and even they reacted.
