Yeah I have never been in the "gotta have the greatest and latest" group, I can wait a year or two until the prices come down and smile knowing I've saved a lot of money. After my teen years I've rarely gone to see a movie, I can wait until it's on TV for free.
I've never owned a new car, never wanted one, to me it's a waste of money, but then again I worked on new cars for a living so that probably has a lot to do with it. I have had a lot of really nice cars, hot rods, but I also always had daily drivers, beaters and kept the nice cars for "me time", not for driving back and forth to work or in the winter.
I use to buy a lot of cars that came in the shop for big repairs and the customers wouldn't want to put that much money in them or trade in's the dealership was going to send to the auction. I'd repair them at home and either keep them for myself or flip them and make some money, did a LOT of that over the years. I always looked for cars that had a really nice body, paint and interior, the mechanical stuff I can fix. Over my life I've saved a TON of money buying used cars that needed repairs rather then buying new cars and never ever felt I've missed out on a thing. Only twice did I ever take out a vehicle loan and that was early on before I started twisting wrenches, the rest were paid for with cash.
