I tried cotton and couldn't get past the taste of sucking on a wet t-shirt (or insert clothing article of your own choice).
Yes I had experienced that taste before. Can't remember which brand of cotton I got that taste from. Don't remember getting it from the brand of Japanese of organic cotton I've been using for the last two years or more.

A couple of things come to mind that goes along with current subjet.
Did I ever mention that I roll my rayon wicks so tight that they almost turn back into wood? ....LOL
and
I think (guessing) that the bad taste people complain about with rayon came from their fingers.

You know that could be more on the money then you think, I always go and wash my hands before I sit down to rebuild. Even after a good scrub, when I wet and twist the end of the rayon to feed into the coil you can see the discoloration on the rayon where some stuff comes off your fingers but I work with my hands a lot, ever see a mechanics hands? They are never "clean", the grease and oils get into your skin. When my wife and I first got together she would comment on my hands being dirty, I'd tell her if I can't wash it off it's not going to come off on you LoL.

If you pack to much rayon you can get that wet t-shirt taste for a little while, that's something a lot of people report and I've noticed it too. But it goes away and to me it's a good sign that you've got a good wick, I'd rather get the wet t-shirt taste then not, like I say, it will go away in a short bit anyways.

Ain't that the truth. I used to work on autos and bikes all of the time. No amount of soap could ever get everything off. :(

The new neighbors, been here a year, he always mows twenty feet over onto our property. He knows where the lines are, the markers are in plain sight and he's seen me mow on the line many times, I've been here 31 years. It bugged my wife but not me, she said I should say something to him, I gave her my points of view.
There is no such thing as squatters rights anymore, he can't take ownership just because he mows it.
It won't change how our deed reads or take anything from us.
So long as all he does is mow it, no harm done.
I don't care what his reason/s are, what thoughts run through his head doesn't impact mine. ;)
And lastly, a man would have to be a damn fool to complain about someone mowing his lawn for him, he can mow as much as he wants. :)
She doesn't worry about it anymore.

Wow, I come back from the family labor day lunch, Rayon has exploded on this thread and I missed it! Looks like the Rayonatti here took care of it.:thumb:

I might add for Bill or whoever may want to try Rayon that reducing the thickness of the wicktails is necessary on most attys but not all of them. Some require more thinning, some less. Also, thinning the tails by brushing, picking or combing is a complete waste of time imo. Just snip off what you want removed with sharp mini scissors.

Read the first 2 pages of this for comprehensive instructions:Rayon Wick - Better Flow, Flavor, Longevity, and Nic Hit!! - Pt.2

Rayon: "If it ain't squeek'n, it ain't peak'n!"

Yeap, I read that awhile ago. Do you know where the word "rayon" comes from? It comes from "ray" which means sun or bright. "on" means cotton. So rayon comes from bright cotton. Hmm... I am not seeing it. Sounds like a marketing ploy to me.

A better name would have been artificial silk. :)

Sitting down, facing forward.
Yeah, the consistency of Sally's isn't all that good, but for the price, who cares? I judge every time I make a wick, sometimes more than usual, sometimes less than usual, in terms of the "rope" thickness. Using the "double insertion" method does help make sure you get enough in the coil and makes trimming a lot easier at the same time.

I tried the double insertion method on several rewicks when you mentioned it on the Rayon thread. It does make it pretty easy to get consistent density in the coil. How does it make it easier to thin the tails? Maybe I missed something?
