thinking...dangerous I know...but...
What about leaving a 'just fits in the chamber' ceramic wick and draping rayon over the ends ?

Like towels on a towel bar...

Might be a cool way to not have to re-wick through the coil...
Understand ?
I have tried it, not with this ceramic, this stuff is solid, this wouldnt wick at all, but I have tried with the 60 grit AO we used to use in the gennies. The ceramic didnt keep up, it didnt keep the coil saturated enough. It might work if really reduced the diameter of the wick/coil, but I have become accustomed to the high volume hits you get off the velocity style decks.

I will say that I am still liking it. I always have a "break in" period with rayon wicks, the rayon seems to impart a flavor for a half tank or so. As this build broke in, I was liking it more and more.

Incidentally, I suspect the break-in period you're experiencing is from having a little too much rayon in the coils, Mike.

I deliberately err on the side of too much rayon density in the coil. To virtually eliminate any break in period I fully saturate the coil and blow on it while firing at my normal vaping wattage for that device. I continue firing/blowing until the wick begins to visibly dry out and repeat the process about 10 times.
That takes care of unwanted rayon flavor notes but it still takes a few hours for rayon to completely absorb juice into the fibers to perform to its full potential.

Is rayon better than "Scottish Fold(ed)" cotton?
I dont have a feel for that myself, I never warmed up to cotton. I tried it a few times and didnt like the longevity of it as compared to rayon. Rayon wicks work well and last a long time. You can take a a discolored nasty looking wick and run the wick/coil under a dribble of water and the rayon rinses clean in seconds. What determines my wick life is how long the coil takes to get gunked up, the coil is the limiting factor, not the wick.

Hmmm, I'm always up for giving a dance to something new...where do you get yours, mikey?
LOL, I got mine at "Salley Beauty shop", its a large chain. If you read the rayon thread there are also some folks using a certain brand of tampons.

Its called "cellucotton" You need to be careful as there are a few types with similar looking packages, some is cotton, you want the 100% rayon.

This box is enough to last a couple people several lifetimes.

Yes, with better flavor and it has a 40°f higher burn point than cotton. It also lasts 4X longer. As Mike said earlier, your coil will gunk up before the rayon gives up.

I too lean on the heavy side when wicking with rayon, in that other thread using too much rayon was described as giving a wet t-shirt taste for a short while, goes away after it settles and breaks in. That's how I gauge if I used enough, if I get the t-shirt taste it's going to be a good build.

Yup Sally's is the way to go, I've been using it for a few years, given a bunch away and still have 3/4 of a box, it's a real bargain.

With the juice I use, on my builds and the way I vape, my coils gunk in three days. I just rebuild every 2-3 days, I don't want to vape the nasty stuff that comes off gunked coils.

Wise.....
Informed sources, who dont want to be slammed for saying something negative about vaping, tell me that the level of nasties increases significantly with the amount of gunk on the coil. You are burning burnt sludge, logically speaking, it cant be good.
