Once you go Clapton (or similar), it seems there's no going back.

I wrapped a new coil last night with some 28ga Ti wire I twisted up, because I got tired of my SS316L Clapton wire TC issues...long story short, it's not the same. I might have to start making my own Ti Clapton wires. :glare:

I experimented with mesh as the heating element a few years ago. What I learned was that any discontinuity in the mesh, IE a loose mesh wire, creates a horrible hot spot with temps high enough to create hexavalent chromium. TC would not prevent this since it looks at total resistance and the change would be nominal.

Thanks for the reply :) I'v never tried SS mesh as a coil before.
I have used it as feeder wicks with good results.
When I saw the video I had my doubts that TC would be an option.

I have never had good results with SS in TC :( Ti wire for Clapton builds is working very well for me in TC :) I do agree Clapton coils bring up the heat & flavour :)
My concern is & has all ways been a solid TC vape, Ti is giving me that even with a Clapton :)

I would think it would work in TC mode no problem. The catch is that a loose individual mesh wire could cause a hot spot that TC wouldn't detect. When I stopped my experiments I was probably over cautious as I can't be for certain that I had created hexavalent chromium from a hot spot or not but the health risks of CR VI are known so I binned that project.

Burnt holes through mesh brings back a lot of nightmarish memories from my genny days.......aaaaarg! I eventually got the hang of how much wire compression to use but every once in a while.....flame out!! It's worse than a burnt cotton hit to me, probably more poisonous too.

I had one heck of a time getting genny's wrapped. My problem stemmed from trying to use them on a Smok Zmax, PWM just was too much for me I guess.
I "graduated" to mechanical's and got it right away but thought "this tastes like crap".....I was using 24 mg juice at the time. (DUH)
So I bundled all my gen stuff and put it in the classifieds.
It's been a while since I've done one but suspect I can still get it right from the get go.
The last one I did was with Ni back when the DNA 40's first came out.

Ditto, that's why I switched to ceramic wicks on my gennys. Plus I got tired of messing with hot spots until you broke them in good.

@mikepetro What do you think of TC with this? Doable?

Is that the BT? If so yeah, my cousin has one & TC works just fine if you use the correct mesh, bc of the way the posts hold it the mesh heats up evenly & everything... It's a juice guzzler, which is fine I guess and it also needs about 40-60 watts to get to ~400F. It's cool though, I wouldn't use it all the time but for dl vaping it's very satisfying. Really thick & dense vapors.

I gave him some of mine, a couple sheets of 200 & 500 in different grades... Was looking through my stash and I think I have almost enough to make screen doors for the neighborhood, it's all in large envelopes & most of it is 316L, used to be able to get 430 mesh in 200 which I've still got an envelope of, but idk if it's even available anymore.

I wonder if it would be better to double up on the mesh and sandwich the wick between them. Definitely a lot of interesting building options with this.

Now to source some NiFe52 or Ti mesh...
After thinking about it some more I wonder if it would be better to have to post horizontal instead of vertical.

Either the clamps about the height of the juice well like a lot of postless decks and then building an upsidedown U shape when viewed from the side with the cotton under it

Or with the horizontal clamps raised and built in a regular U shape from the side. Then you just rest the wick over the top in the U with the tails going over the sides and into the juice well. basically like a "Z" coil on a 2 post deck but with the top half cut off and mesh instead of round wire.

Maybe, love the simplicity of it. Not sure how uniform the wires in any mesh would be, so accuracy might be an issue.

Too much of a cloud machine for my MTL style though.

Don't think I will be getting it either, Was just wondering if it could do TC.
I dont drip & my BF's take 22mm, 24 would over hang :(
It is nice to see some innovation for a change, not the same old atty style over & over

and for steamer ;)
