I got to go inside a DHL depot once when they we unloading shipping containers taken off airplanes, the contents were tossed on a long conveyor the length of the building, on each side of the conveyor delivery vans were backed up to it. At each van two workers were sorting and loading the vans, packages were everywhere, on the floor, under the conveyor, roof of the van, there was barely enough room for the workers to stand. It was a daunting task to stuff all the packages into the truck, there couldn't have been enough room left for a person to fit in the back once loaded. How they could pick the packages to go on their van, sort and load them for everything to fit and then come back off at each stop along the route was beyond me, on top of it the place was poorly lit, it was something to see. Last thing on their minds was care of handling, packages where being thrown and crushed, they weren't wasting anytime getting the job done. I can see how packages could easily go on the wrong route, we're lucky we get them at all.
