Do you have the preheat set to 75 watts perhaps? Still should work though IMO.

OK, my problem is resolved. You are right, preheat was set to 75 for 1 sec. I downloaded Escribe and set up a profile, temp 405, power 12W, preheat 15W for 0.5 sec. It worked fine. I'm going to try raising the power a little at a time and see what happens. Probably turn preheat off as well.

Seemed a little odd that the preheat was preloaded on the mod at such a high level, especially as I couldn't find where you could adjust it from the mod without Escribe. Not everyone has a Windows PC. And I don't quite understand why the temp limit didn't protect my coil during the preheat blast. Maybe it tried but the coil just popped too fast. That SS wire must be very delicate. I got a Pico once and didn't check the power setting before I took a puff. It was preset to 60W which was way too high for my little tootle puffing Kanthal coil. I got a burning hot drag but the coil was fine.

And in Escribe Monitor I couldn't see what temp my coil reached during a puff. There is a temp field in the Last Puff section but it only showed a "?". Still a lot to learn.

Can you show us a picture of your build?

I am looking to see if you have a long uncovered leg. They can sometimes get pretty hot.

The other thing I would suggest is try starting your temp low, like at 280F and then slowly bump it up. It could be that the TCR doesnt match your wire. What brand wire are you using?

Are coils spaced or touching? Spaced coils tend to work better in TC.

Lastly, have you loaded Escribe? It would be interesting to see this leg breaker on Device Monitor. That will show you how many watts it is throwing at it during preheat. Also while you have Escribe running figure out your Mod resistance and plug that in there too. It makes a difference and the Jaq does not come from the factory with this value preloaded.

I'll try to get a pic. The legs aren't very long though. It's in a Lemo and I use the screws not the holes.

I did get this figured out by the way. I posted the details, it was the preheat that did me in. I took one drag to see what was happening before I adjusted the settings, and I got some wild red stuff on the monitor before the coil blew. Didn't understand what I was seeing unfortunately.

So I decided to aggravate myself a bit and put a coil of 26 gauge ss317l into one of my TGT3's.
I know just what kind of wattage that I should be able to attain.
I had to bump up the temp to 510F to achieve the expected perfornance, my wattage/preheat was set slightly lower.
Kind of a fail but with above settings it vapes pretty good.
Certainly not a surprise.
Normally I use SS430 @ 430F
Replying to my own post...LOL
All is well @ 430F now, go figure.
(surprised)
