I have not watched Seigle in a few years. But I recall, as I got sicker and sicker of him, that I could summarize every segment: [insert substance] will kill you, go to your doctor, immediately.

Generally, I think that the overwhelming majority of commercial liquids are pretty safe and don't contain oils, at the very least. Even the few that may have some component of oil in them it is a fractional amount, not the total base carrier. It's not in the interest of a manufacturer to make their customers sick or kill them.

Now it's going further. I just watched a news report, with a medical doctor, Marc Seigle, who made it a point to mention that the current crop of problems seem to be related to ... oils. But, there's always a but, he went on to talk about the "very high levels" of nicotine in juul as an example. He conveniently neglected to mention that the absorbtion rate of nicotine from vaping is considerably lower than the absorption rate when smoking.

The problem is superficial examination of numbers without examining the full data. That is very similar to the early tests that "conclusively" showed extremely high levels of aldehydes in vapor. They never mentioned that they were running all their tests at maximum power levels or even dry burning the atomizers and producing vapor that no one could vape, even with iron lungs.

Newton Minnow was right, back in the '60s, when he said TV is a vast wasteland and now it's also made the MSM a vast wasteland.

Sitting down, facing forward.
But the point is that those 300+ people vaped an oil based substance, in this case in an effort to get a high like wacky weed and not the liquids used by "normal" vapers which is a PG/VG mix with water and some flavors, also generally PG based. It's also interesting to note that the vast, overwhelming, majority of those 300 are in their 20's or under. Another indication that critical thinking is not being taught in our, alleged, institutions of education. Blaming vaping for their problem is just not realistic or honest.

that's where the problem seems to be - not all of them did. :?:
Valid point, but how many also falsely denied it for whatever reason?

I think we have a smoking gun, but the jury is still out.

The schools have more important things to teach than critical thinking, that is so last century.

Last week I called every tool rental place I could find within an hours drive from me looking to rent an engine hoist, none of them rent them any more, they have all narrowed the tools they rent because they just don't get calls for them anymore. Around here, you'd be hard pressed to find a school that has shop class, not even wood shop. We've stopped teaching kids a lot of skills and I fear the results of that. But when it comes to a head I won't be around to see it, still makes me sad to think about it.

I've got a thought, maybe teach the material rather than teach to pass the test. That's how it used to work and it seemed to work really well.

Naw, kids today are far more knowledgeable than those kids of the past, just ask them. Be certain that you constrain your laughter at the responses, it could be offensive.

No garage rafters or come-alongs in your neck of the woods? :pervy: ;)

Times have changed its been decades since I saw the guy walking down the street with the hand bell pulling a grind stone.

Was just out mowing the lawn when a buddy spotted me and stopped to chat, he's going through cancer treatment now and my age. We were trading treatment war stories and the advantages of being older. It seems we tend to view life in much simpler ways then when we were younger. If I only knew then what I know now, could have saved myself a lot of frustration.

LoL, that's another thing we talked about, and we agreed, we don't give a damn if you're "offended". Get over it, life is full of being offended and disappointments. And don't expect me to loose any sleep if your ...... at me or don't like me, it's your problem, not mine. Now get off my lawn!

I'm really glad he stopped by, he pulled out a cigarette and my just heart sank. I pulled out my mod and asked him if he would allow me to set him up with some gear and be willing to give vaping a good try. He was very interested and said he'd be happy to give it a go if I'd be willing to help, absolutely! Man, going through treatments and still smoking, yikes! I won't be able to sleep if I don't try to help him.

Yes, big 8 x 8 beam in "my shop" which is a small old barn with a 2nd floor, built before I was born. I drilled a hole on each side of the beam, wrapped a 800 test lb chain around it and used chain falls. First time I ever used them to pull an engine and I was pleasantly surprised, they work great and I was able to pull and drop the engine by myself, a hoist is a two man job. Pulling and dropping the engine was actually a quick and easy part of the job.

But I'm still paying for it, my back is much better but my neck is not and it's just killing me, if not better by Monday I'll get another round of steroids from the doctor.

Heck, I'm surprised that 80% admitted it, considering the age range.

...perhaps not all admitted it.

My thoughts are that the (what ever alphabet agency) needs to do (and fast) is to publicize for protection/safety the difference between vaping nicotine to replace smoking and vaping other stuff for medicinal/recreational. AND that the other stuff for medicinal just because it has 3 letters doesn't mean it's vapeable.
I have a feeling people are using the "over the counter" to be ingested or rubbed into the skin stuff for vaping. (could explain the cases not in the one area)
Ya know..."I heard they vape this...I have some I got for for my aching back...I'll vape it.

Just blaming it on vaping is dangerous for others that might want to vape their stuff.
There is a HUGE difference between 3 letter oil and 3 letter e-liquid. People NEED to know this to stop these health tragedies.

Dangerous ! NOT suitable for vaping.
