Anyone every tinker with this? Look's very interesting, shareware. Complete operating system run off a USB drive with encryption, leaves no trace, has a "desktop" with apps for browsing, email and more.
Tails - Privacy for anyone anywhere

"Tails is a live system that aims to preserve your privacy and anonymity. It helps you to use the Internet anonymously and circumvent censorship almost anywhere you go and on any computer but leaving no trace unless you ask it to explicitly.

It is a complete operating system designed to be used from a USB stick or a DVD independently of the computer's original operating system. It is Free Software and based on Debian GNU/Linux.

Tails comes with several built-in applications pre-configured with security in mind: web browser, instant messaging client, email client, office suite, image and sound editor, etc"

The included GNOME desktop GNOME – An easy and elegant way to use your computer, GNOME 3 is designed to put you in control and get things done.

Never really bothered with going through the Tor network for access to the internet as I never needed to cover my tracks. ;)

I have run quite a few USB distro's quite a bit in the past, Puppy, Knoppix, SliTaz etc, they all work quite nicely and come in very handy when you need internet access or for repair purposes.

Ran them mostly on multiboot USB utility sticks with YUMI.

Not worried about any tracks, don't know anymore about this then what I skimmed through, it's all new to me. I found it very fascinating you can run a FREE OS all off a thumb drive complete with a desktop! Makes me wonder why I'm paying for Windows??

Not familiar with the OS you posted, but the concept is not new. If there is no need to use Windows for say a particular software, then there are all kinds of free operating systems - some can be installed to hard disc, some can be run from a USB or DVD/CD – the later you will need to ensure the OS allows writing to a non volatile storage medium if you wish to save your work.

USB sticks fail quite often and are slow as hell. If I didn't play games on the PC I would run Linux full time.

I have heard about USB sticks failing and I have never seen it myself. But those USB OS I heard tell can wear out a cheap stick in a month. My oldest stick is a 32MB (remember those?) that has a bootable MS-DOS on it and it still works. Nowadays, you can have a bootable Windows 10 on a stick.

And while I have a lot of different OS too, I keep using Windows the most. As virtually everything runs under Windows. And yes, including games. ;)

And BTW, while we may be able to hide from some using what's available to us, I HIGHLY doubt we could ever hide from the government's reach, I'm sure they have all the best tools and they capture EVERYTHING. Ever listen to Bill Binney?
You never know who has poisoned Tor nodes out there, old Silk Road and Dark Web stuff for sure. :)

Customers brought defective USB sticks and μSD cards constantly into the shop to get us to recover pictures from, some had a bad solder joint on the stick connector but most were unrecognizable to the OS.

We told them all that these are temporary storage devices and never to be trusted.

I went through 6 USB sticks myself while working there, but they saw daily use in many machines.

I've had a couple USB drives go bad, I've got one of the sandisk below and it get's hotter than hell every time I tried to use it, I don't dare use it now, it was a waste of money.

The dark web I have no desire to wander into, although I really don't know much about it I can only go by what I have heard and that is it's not a place to go unless you really know how to protect yourself there. I've heard some bad people can easily find out who a noobie is and wreck your life if they wanted too, there is nothing there I need.

Speaking of dark web, anyone following Mr. Robot? Some real twists and turns! Kind of hate seeing it come to an end.

Wow! SanDisk is usually pretty good. Are you sure it isn't a fake? I'd be curious on what the power draw was? It can't be too much since USB ports will cutoff power if they try to draw too much.

Compact package at full USB "3" speed, might be maxing out its thermal limits.

Real as far as I could tell, got it from bestbuy on sale. Unfortunately I waited months before using it enough to find out it gets hot, by then I had tossed the packaging so I couldn't return it. After having problems I went back to the product page to look up the warranty and I saw others complaining of the same problem, a couple people said they got their fingers burnt, it does get pretty hot and quickly. I just won't use it now, write it off to a bad experience and move on.
