I'm not a person who's face is always in their phone, but I don't want to go with out it!
I don't want to go back to reading maps or asking for directions :)

I have a Garmin that I use for finding my way around a new place.

I bought two pair of 16GB RAM for two HP 2in1 15 inch touch screen laptops that each only had 4GB. Why they sell Windows 10 x64 machines with just 4GB I'll never know. That only leaves like 1GB for your applications and you can't do much with that. And the machines with 8GB of RAM, they increase the price to like 200 bucks more!

Anyway one of them is one model year newer than the other. I just removed the bottom and everything is right there on the 2019 model. Hard drive, RAM, M.2 slot, etc. The earlier 2018 model, you need to remove the keyboard and the motherboard just to get to the RAM slots. They sure didn't make that one easy.

And dang, I flip the mother board over and there is an unused M.2 slot. I wish I knew it was there before I tore it apart. As I would have added a SSD. Night and day difference though with 16GB. Both of them are both quite usable now. I am not sure what I did to the 2018 touchpad, but it is dead now. You practically need tiny Chinese fingers just to get those ribbon cables on in that tight space. But it isn't a big deal with a touch screen and a mouse anyway. ;)
Gee... I noticed today the top of the keyboard frame was stuck up like it wasn't snapped in right. Pressing it down, I noticed there were actually 3 snaps not locked down. And lo and behold, the non-functioning touchpad came back to life again. I guess those touchpads are really sensitive to any bit of flex to them at all.

I have an old Oregon 650 that I use.

Do you still use it? Or just use google maps?
I get more use out of my GPS than any thing on my phone, except maybe the camera & Text.
I'm all over, looking at & doing jobs, google maps is a God sent :)
Text me a location & I know exactly were it is :) Sure there are other devices that can do it also, but a phone combines them all in one simple device! I know there are some flash light fans here, I would never carry one! My phone has one :)
HonestlyI couldn't function as efficiently as I do today, with out my Phone!

I know I'm repeating myself again but these days just about any movie or TV show can be found online, just search fmovies, there's a ton of those hosting websites, older ones close and new ones pop up weekly. Just keep the kids out of the room when visiting them, some of the spamy popups are... not tasteful, uBlock helps. Using Torch Browser with the built in media grabber you can download the videos, well from those that don't stream, if you keep digging, you'll find the video's you want that will download.

Sitting down, facing forward.
In your case a smart phone is a tool though, Steamer, not an entertainment device or a baby sitter. I do wonder if you're comfortable with Google, and who knows who else, knowing where you are every second of every day. We have a Garmin when we need it, but I usually just have a look at a map, paper or computer, and can get to anywhere from that. As far as a flashlight goes, nothing, and I mean nothing, compares to the CREE or COB, 18650 powered, flashlights today. A cell phone is less than flatulence in a wind storm by comparison, especially if the 18650 model has variable focus.

A couple years ago I ran across an online tech article along the lines of "How much of your info does Google store" and it told how to check. I logged into my account and checked the stored data, I was horrified! There were even maps showing everywhere I had been for a couple years since I switched to a smart phone. They know how fast you were traveling, were you stopped and for how long, everything. You can delete the info (believe that I and I have bridge to sell you) and you can change the "default" privacy settings.

Might want to dig info on the contracts all these big tech and software companies have with the government to store security data, mostly Google and Amazon, and what countries would those servers be located? Do US privacy laws have teeth to protect data collected about us that's stored in other countries?

We did a little geocaching a few years back and picked up the Oregon for that, it served it's purpose and did a good job. Too many tics in the woods and fields today for me to even bother going out anymore.

I gave up the cell phone with my last job and never felt the need to get another. I can get Google map info on the kindle from WiFi at Tim Horton's etc, so if I'm really lost a quick pop into Timmies is easy, just not as convenient as a cell. The data plans are also too costly IMHO.

I have a Nite Ize Tool Holster on my belt all the time with a 14500 flashlight, Leatherman Wave and cheap Gerber Paraframe Mini. The wife gives me grief when I get dressed up to go out and the holster gets moved over to the suit pants.

The Vibe has OnStar, so if I ever did need a cell phone in an emergency giving them my credit card number can have a phone hooked up in minutes.
