I luckily have never got the infamous dry mesh hit, Yet! But dosent it go with out saying if TC controls the mesh from Glowing Red it should also control Hot Spots? I'm going to run a Plus dry sooner or later & will get the infamous Dry Hit or the standard Weak TC hit :)
BTW I have noticed an easy way to ruin a mesh strip is to glow it Too Red!
I have done this on initial set up & found the strip gave a bad taste afterwards :(
Now with the SS Strips I brake in by going up to 600 degrees & don't Glow it Red Hot :)

I have gotten that bad taste from glowing SS and NiCr coils and mesh too. My guess it is from the nickel in the alloy. Nowadays I don't like to get any higher than vaping temperatures anymore. I used only Ni200 for a few years and if you can't clean them (most of the time you can), then I just chuck them.

That's weird.

Not really! The strips are very thin, it don't take much to F them up.
At 600 degrees the SS mesh all most starts to glow, if you pulse it at 45 watts it glows like the Sun all most instantly! I'm sure thats enough to alter it's composition!

No. TC knows nothing about the temperature, only the total resistance. If the resistance is even across the coil then it uses a formula to approximate the temp. Liquid draws heat from the coil to cause vaporization which takes quite a bit of energy. If a part of the coil does not have this energy being drawn from it, it will heat up more than the rest since it has the same current flowing through it. (Kirchhoff's law) The resistance in that small part of the coil will rise, but since it is a small part of the coil the overall resistance will not rise much. Mesh can be much worse about hot spots because the individual mesh wires are so small and the current is distributed through multiple wires instead of one.

@BillW50 your right about the mesh dry hit. I've had it once :-x. Turned out it was one part of the mesh at the edge of the one clamps that didn't have wick pressing against it.
@Steamer861, I don't even bother with pulsing mesh anymore. I use only SS mesh for TC reasons but I just build and go. The most I do anymore is to hit the fire button once to make sure the resistance is correct. I don't even bother with stepping through wattage or temp numbers to break in.

If for no other reason I would want to dry fire it just to burn off anything that might be on it.

That is one way. The other way is just to clean it. When you buy stock drop in coils, none that I ever seen was ever dry burned.

because the individual mesh wires are so small

The Mesh Strips aren't like real mesh from a Genie, they're more like a micro thin razor blade.

I'l take one for the team & run one of my Plus's dry.
I know with a Titanium coil, when run dry the plus would just do an anaemic hit! Lets see what the SS Mesh Strip does in TC?

If you're curious about how much juice a Geekvape Zeus X Mesh holds, I just rewicked one and put it together dry and filled the tank. It had taken 6.5ml worth. This Kanthal mesh has gone through 613.4ml worth of juice through it so far and it is still holding up just fine. :D

Well, No massive Dry Hit :) It just trails of to an anaemic Hit just like the Ti Coil would :)
Here's what the Mesh & Wick look like after it was vaped Dry!
TC does it's job
KTZ4Yd1.jpg
Now take a screwdriver and move some wick away from that mesh so it isn't touching and see if TC kicks in after a few vapes... You only need a small bit of exposed mesh to create a nasty dry hit, and I don't think TC would correct that, it couldn't IMHO.

Edit: forgot to add juice up that wick when you try the test. ;)
