Okay manu, it's settled then. The dna can not achieve 12watts Amen. Let it be written for all those who may follow.
I agree. I'm sure they use calculated figures to come up with the 12 watts. Or it was recorded once. I still get vastly fluctuated readings and only a very few times I peaked to 11.68 watts with the same equipment and settings. I have soldered batteries (40c rating) and wires as short as I can go. Output and battery wires at 20ga.

It's da gremlins Breaktru - I tell ya it's the gremlins... they muck up everything. :D

I'm really hoping someone will come along and actually get 12 Watts and tell us *how* they got 12 Watts. It could be sumfin that we hadn't thought of yet. Just not sure. Or it may be that the board is overspec'd. Just not sure of that either.

im so curious what brandon has to say, don't think he's addressed any of this and would love to hear his thoughts.

Hey guys, just had a long conversation with Brandon.....alot plays into the max output....have been dealing with him for well over a year...he has excellent customer service.....I can say that he is aware of the wattage variation, and he told me he was going to get with you both....I will go on record here saying you will be pleased with the outcome....and I have been told that the DNA's being shipped to me will achieve 12 watts......I can assure you, with Brandon, it is not ALL about money....he is big on customer service....as his datasheet says....Preliminary Datasheet....hang in there guys...12 watts WILL happend.....Modding is fun, educational, and helpful.....also helps with troubleshooting new things (like the DNA)....

Have a good one guys.....

It's going to be awhile till I build mine out (soldering station should be delivered today, and it isn't at the top of the agenda), but when I build mine, I think I'm going to attach it to interconnect board, and power it with 2x18650's in individual holders. I'm going to run the shortest 20 ga runs I can from each bat holder. So in essence, the power will be provided by 4 short strands of 20 ga. rather than 2.

So I suppose my question would be, will wiring it that way effectively widen the pipe the power is being supplied on, or will the copper strip on the interconnect board act as a choke point? And if it does electrically widen the pipe, might that improve stability?

thanks retird, brandon was very helpful and they should be super stoked they have you to help field all the questions and concerns. kudos to you sir, retird!!

brandon sent me some info on the dna and their findings, i'd post his response to my email here but not sure its cool to do so or not so i'll wait for retird's thoughts.

I second JMarkus' emotion about Retird's work on this in contacting Brandon. I'm looking forward to hearing what Brandon has to say about this, although, if mine can hit 11W, it will be more than enough for me.

Brandon's customer service and responsiveness is top-notch in my book. I awoke to a reply from him regarding a question about wiring of the DNA 12. I sent my inquiry last night at almost 11pm. That's as responsive as it gets!

To elaborate, he informed me that in the case where my mechanical switch contacts the battery positive, that it is OK to "bridge", or always-ON, the switch contacts on the board and wire the DNA12 positive to the switch.

My Vmod XL will have the shortest neg run, as the neg spring is actually wired through the board. Pos wire will only be 2", also. I've had my Kick set @ ~8.5, so the hubub about the lack of 12W is moot for me, as well.

Thanks retird. That's good to hear..... and you have a good one as well.
I really wasn't overly concerned about the fluctuation or the 12 watts. I was just joking around about the counting.. one million and four........
It vapes pretty good the way it is.

Isn't modding fun.....I want to give cuddo's to Breaktru and Mamu for the modding they do...they have been an asset to the community for a long time....wish I had the knowledge they have, but I'm getting there (slowly)....

Don't feel bad retird, you have me to look down on. I'm the greenest noob in these parts. Just got my soldering station today. :)

Posting e-mails is against ECF rules, but you can just write about what it says.....paraphase what you want to tell us....

apparently there were issues with the pilot run, something about "component tolerance stack up" which was preventing the 12 watt max. they've widened the power range on all future dna's which will result in reaching at least 12 watts, maybe even slightly higher.

also, i wanna reiterate what dougiestyle said about brandon's responsiveness. i sent emails late last night that we're responded to super quick with lots of great information, patience and help.

I agree. Brandon's support in his products and customer follow-up is totally top notch.

He is exchanging my pilot boards for the updated version. Ya'll prob feel the earth rumble from my happy dance when I hit that 12 Watts mark.
