I was never great at math and never really used Excel back in school. Does any kind hearted individual have a general spreadsheet they've been using to keep track of their finances in regards to e-cigarette investments vs old analog habits they'd be willing to share with me? I'm trying to keep my head level when it comes to buying more hardware & tasting various pre-mixed juices.

Assuming these are constant numbers; if I spent $8 per pack of Newports, used to smoke about 10 per day, $0.40 per smoke, it would come out to $28 per week, $112 per month, $1,344 per year correct? Is there an easy way you have found to log your purchases to stay in the black? Or perhaps I should just stick to a piece of college ruled binder paper and a pen...

This kinda tickled me a bit, only because many of us wanted/or did the same "keep track" sheet (me included). What made me smile was thinking about the look you're gonna have on your face when you realize just how much(in the first 1-6 mo) this has cost you. Some things are better left unknown..at least for now. My advise......write or log it into the computer but don't tally it for 6 mo when you are free of the nasties and can walk up a flight of stairs without getting winded. That's when no matter the cost every penny was worth it.

Ahhhh... I see...

So, essentially sidetrack & Aoi~ are telling me to buy more... buy more... You're both telling me that it's better to buy multiple ProVaris, Lavatubes, DIDs, batteries, chargers, attys, cartos, clearos, drip tips, and everything else now right?! RIGHT?! HUZZAH!!

Okay. Gonna go tell my wife that my fellow ECFers told me that I need to buy moar stuffs. Thanks! I will report back shortly!

Hi, this is my first post but I did this exact thing last night. So I thought I would post the excel doc that I made for this. Of course change the 1 day values to what your smoking habits were and what your vaping habits are. Also change the initial cost to what you spent on your setup and everything else should change accordingly.

Hope it helps, as this forum has helped me move on from analogs.
 Yeah, first post done.

I understand wanting to keep track of saving from switching to vaping. I know I'm not saving money as vaping has become a hobby for me with fun devices and tasty juices. The real thing here for me is health! How much money are your saving by lowering your risks for
coronary heart disease by 2 to 4 times,
stroke by 2 to 4 times,
men developing lung cancer by 23 times,
women developing lung cancer by 13 times1 and
dying from chronic obstructive lung diseases (such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema) by 12 to 13 times. (From the CDC Website)
In the long run, a longer and healthier life is always the key to balancing the excel spreadsheet in my head!:toast:

Personally, I am WAY ahead on the vaping game. I might have been in the red in the beginning, but it has fallen back sharply. I spent a little over $300/ month on the stinkys and that is a really good budget to stay under buying consumables.

Now, if I could just pick my next MOD I might be singing a different story. LOL

Thanks, I was just going to write one. Oh and welcome!

Now to add to your sheet, I would also factor in the cost of clearomizers, cartos or attys. That's easy enough to add a column, and make a little formula based on the life span of the device you are using.

And yes, the long term health savings can't be measured. At least in a spreadsheet. I hope there are some long term studies in the works.

My earlier posts were made in jest. (Somewhat...) Haha.

My wife fully supports me in making the switch over from analogs to vaping but I doubt I'll get her approval to purchase a +$100-200 mod in the future without the help of the numbers of it all.

Of course, the health benefits are of the highest priority and value. That, I nor anyone else can really put a price on. However, with the topic of finances, I feel it's always a good idea to have a gameplan set so things don't get out of hand.

Yes there's medical research being done on vaping. The long term studies will take a while and funding probably from the analog companies getting into the industry. So far, there have been some short term studies and they have shown a tremendous harm reduction compared to smoking. More studies are being conducted and hopefully published soon.

Your welcome and thanks for the welcoming. :)

I was thinking about adding the cost of attys, cartos, etc. but i have only been vaping for 5 days now. So I don't have a good grasp on how long the heads on my vivi nova and 2 vivi nova minis will last me. I guess I didn't think that far ahead for the spread sheet. I did add the extra 5 heads I bought for them to my initial cost though. I suppose I could just add to the initial cost as I buy new equipment and just rename the row "Equipment cost".

Wow you really did your research! Jumped right into the Vivi Nova. I haven't even gotten to that yet! I wish I had found this site before I bought my first eCig. Now I need to resist the temptation to buy such cool toys.

Lol! I made an Excel sheet too. I'm a bit compulsive about things like that. I have a running list of what I've spent, and another column running down the side of what I haven't spent on cigarettes. I'm not sure if it was the best idea, since my break even point keeps getting further away as I try new liquids and toys...

Not including my very sad 510 "starter" kit from four years ago or the disposables I had to buy the other day when I ran out of juice, I am $234.49 into vaping. Four twist batteries, two chargers, several clearo types, replaceable heads, and juice to last me through September.

The best part is... ZERO cigarettes since August 23, 2012. I threw all of my leftover analogs away yesterday as I do not see ever needing them again! HUZZAH!!!

Not bad. Not bad at all. I am in the "red" right now but I'll be back in the black and beyond as my setup costs are pretty much covered. Juices and heads are all I will purchase for the next few months and THEN maybe I can talk my wife into letting me buy some sturdier mods! Wish me luck! And again, thanks for the help everyone! Did I ever mention how much I love this forum? Cause I love it a lot!
