Roly Gate: Yes, good point - all ecigs should now use Li-Mn or hybrid. Li-ion cells are obsolete now, and it is obvious that the protection circuits in 'protected Li-ion' packages (like eGos) don't work when charging.

Roly Gate: I've posted that in ECF already. Li-ion is obsolete and needs to be gone. Currently I'm doing a major set of warnings on ECF about this because with just one UK city reporting nine fires and a death, something needs to be done. We're gonna get crucified on this.

The man was charging his battery with the WRONG charger. It could have been any electrical devise/battery that vented, it just happened to be an e-cig. Again, it was user negligence.
The kid is a glutton for punishment for real. I felt kind of sorry for him in a way at some of the brutal names they were calling him.
Just in the New Members forum there will be ppl saying a shop sold them a mech with a sub ohm coil and they have no idea what to do next. They saw a video about sub ohming, went to the counter and asked for it like they had just seen an ad for toliet paper.
But what is not speculation is the fact that the battery vented & caused damage at a public meet & the fact that it could have seriously injured someone.
The vaping community SHOULD be talking about this because we do NOT want this to become a regular occurrence. We do not want to hear about this happening at other vaping events nor do we want to hear about this happening in someone's home, car, etc. We do NOT want to see anyone get hurt. Period.
...By the way, nobody answered my post many posts ago.....this vape blast WAS promoted as an educational etc. convention. And I asked if there were workshops.
Nobody has told me yet.
I am trying to determine if this meet was in keeping with it's own mission statement.
x2
Oddly enough, they had classes/talks about battery safety at the event. At the first Vape Blast in Dallas, they also had classes on safe rebuilding in drippers, gennies, and kayfun style tanks. But just like it happens countless times a day on this forum, there's always somebody out there who doesn't listen and/or is too ignorant or stupid to heed the advice they are given.
...
Maybe I'm old and have a different ethical standard.
How is this different from a Hit and Run accident?
We are talking about somebody leaving the scene, cowardly. Not sticking around to find out the outcome, not sticking around at all.
Then we have people on this forum who suggest "deflecting" media attention by changing the subject to cell phone melts etc.
IS there anyone who can step up, who can deal honestly and openly with what happened, and then, during an honest analysis, use it for positive benefit, like treat it as an educational experience, etc.?
At first I was disgusted with the fact that a mod blew up, now I'm more digusted with some of the behaviors I have seen surrounding the event.
I hope this is not the way this industry and community is going to practice .... if a vendor's mod hurts somebody, are we just gonna log onto a "404 Page Not Found" the next day? We've already seen some mod makers and eliquid makers who take $$ and then months later may or may not send your stuff. Now we see a person who caused a mini explosion and left the scene of the accident, snuck out the back door so to speak.
So many complain of negative media, let me tell you something, when all eyes are on you (like you're a politician running for office) you take extra extra extra care to make sure everything is right.
Instead, we have vendors, with no safety workshops and/or safety inspection beforehand, holding "cloud contests" at vape bashes. It doesn't matter if the kid was in the competition or not, chances are more than 1 mod could have gone in this direction, given the way all this has been handled.
And we have shops willing to sell this stuff just as if it WERE toilet paper.

How about just Not Doing Cloud Blowing Contests?
Or is that Too Much of a Buzz Kill?
as someone who prefers a large cloud myself, cloud comps are a bad idea. It was only a matter of time before something like this happend. There will always be dumb people who buy sketchy gear and try to push it to its limit, that's a given. Once you throw in a competitive aspect, it's just a recipe for distaster.
Post #435 from someone who attended the event.
However, even several days later, there is dead silence from the promoters concerning the facts of the explosion.![]()
Spitting 7 watts just shy of 2 amps on a declining 4v charge on a 2.2ohm coil under a constant discharge will eventually meltdown the battery like I said. Go ahead and try it for yourself. Hold the tube tightly in your hand and share how warm it gets...smh.
