Failing at DIY miserably

Don't get me wrong though, I can pay the high prices for diy flavors from the juice vendors and do pretty OK with it but when I get flavors from like a lora....s or p.a. or cape...s I just can't seem to make it happen. It leads me to think that the juice vendors are tweaking they're flavors for diy....but how ?? what else do some of the vendors use besides just nic juice and basic flavor? I really need help with this because I enjoy mixing it...just not vaping it lol.

If your using a VG base, you may need to add a little water. W/ PG I believe some use PEG as a thickener, but I don't mix w/ PG so don't quote me on that.

Have you allowed time for your flavors to mature?

When I blend my own juice, I make it a habit to leave it in a cool, dark place for at least 24-48 hours before vaping it. The extra time really allows for the flavors to meld properly.

Nope have not tried water, I assume distilled?. Does that bring out the flavor more?

Everyone says to use distilled water, leaves out the possibility of mineral contaminates. Personally I don't, but that doesn't mean much. lol. It allows the juice to flow better, so the atty gets sufficient juice flow, which allows for more vapor/flavor. Basically. it just thins the mix. But again, it depends what type of flavorings your using. Alcohol bases will tend to need less water(if any) added, oil/PG/VG bases tend to need (more)water added. I honestly just eyeball the viscosity against a known good juice after I have gotten the approximate flavor I want. I really halfa$$ alot, trial and error and having fun every step of the way.

Oh, and I usually mix into straight VG first, get the viscocity and flavor right, then add Nic juice, and adjust flavor as needed(nicotine seems to "up" the flavor some. *shrug* just my own way of doing things. Besides, I have a friend who likes to sample all my juices, and he preferres no nic for the most part.

i use a 50/50 pg/vg 48mg nic juice, i add sweetened pg approx 80% and then vg approx 20% and flavorings, i have an excell speed sheet that helps me out a whole lot. it tells me nic mg, flavoring%, pg/vg%, kinda dumbes every thing down for me. this sheet was made by a friend here on the forum, its helped me out big time, that and the sweetened pg. i just got a 1oz bottle of sweetener from tastyvapor and i'm looking forward to trying it. my flavors got much better after adding eythl maltol to my pg. sweetens it right up and pops the flavors out at you. i've mixed 16 flavors in the last 24hrs, some using doublers from tastyvapor and other using the sweetened pg, can't tell the difference between the sweetness in the doublers and the sweetness in my DIY's. i ordered all my doublers with extra sweetness and thier totally killer like that

Speaking of the doublers...you just mix your own unflavored nic juice with the doublers and your good to go with that?

Myself included most of us have been only been vaping several months. I just had to start DIY from the get go. I'm thinking the suppliers have been through a heck of a lot of trail and error along the way to get to where they are. I haven't found much that a tad of vanilla and some everclear won't turn into something I can vape despite my mishaps.

pretty much. i do like to add and tweek here and there. i got an orange doubler and added some cinnimon to it. i like to mix and match flavors, i have now over 35 flavors and still can't seem to stop ordering. i'll add like 1-2mil of other flavor with the nic juice and doubler for a custom flavor lol

Watermelon flavoring alone might not work for you. But add 2 drop of Cherry, 1 Drop of Pineapple, 1 drop of Vodka and some Cotton Candy and you have a Great Watermelon.

Very few of my "Retail” Tasting DIY recipes rely on only one flavoring.

Your going to have failure so keep Detailed records so when you do get a winner, you can reproduce it.

OK zoi I can relate to that and along those lines would you or maybe anyone know of a chart someone has come up with for diy-ers to make certain flavors better by mixing other flavors with them? Hey there is something for a vet diy-er to do. (for all of us) lol please

I haven’t seen a Chart but there might be one out there. I would suggest you do an ECF search of the DIY section for individual recipes. I think you will see some flavors come up a lot.

Vanilla – All around Great additive to enhance Flavors
Caramel - Gives Body to Flavors
Marsh Mellow / Bavarian Cream – Takes harshness out of Mixes
Pineapple – Adds Tartness
Cotton Candy – General Purpose Sweetener
Vodka or Pure Grain Alcohol – Adds throat hit and “Pop’ to mixes

I’m not sure what types of flavors you like but I think Sweet “Brown” flavors are the easiest to make and or modify. Where as I think pure fruit Mixes are the hardest.

Another thing is it is better most times to “creep up on a flavor” instead of trying to guesstimate what percentage of flavoring to use. If you do a mix and it is weak you can give it a drop or to more of something and see how it does. But if has to much flavoring and tastes nasty, it is hard to know what to cut back and by how much.

You need to keep VERY good records and be patient.

Here is an example of a Sweet Brown mix that I made that turned out very “Retail” well. You might use it or modify it to your tastes.
