“I’ll NOT be doing THAT again!” - the famous Taurus War Cry was heard in our house this morning!

As happens to the aged, O500 hrs this morning found me suddenly wide awake for no good reason. As usual when this happens I got up, sat in my recliner office chair, drank a pot of tea, read for a bit, and visited forums until the rest of the world came awake accompanying all that with a vape.

However that vaping ( OK chain vaping for 2-3 hours ) was done with my new Feedlink Squonk, inadvertently loaded with 18 strength liquid, fired at 4.2 volts to begin with, through a 0.6 ohm coil.

Not good. Not good at all.

Having smoked since I was very young, inhaled even pipe tobacco etc I never reckoned I could get nic sic at this late stage … but OMG suddenly I got hit with the full repertoire, the sweats, the feeling of nausea, dizziness the restlessness where I couldn’t settle but had to prowl, the racing heart etc etc.

How did I manage to do it? Carelessness coupled with the old “it’ll never happen to me” routine basically.

I had grabbed a bottle of my old 18 strength Menthol Liquid, filled the squonk bottle without looking at the juice bottle’s label and chain vaped using what is in essence a protected mech mod with a new battery on a sub ohm coil.

I’m normally a tootle puffer with 1,6 ohm coils but OMG initially at least with the squonk I enjoyed trying DTL and blowing clouds … initially!

I’m sure the rest of you reading this will have more sense than to do anything like I did this morning, but trust me - I’ll NOT be doing THAT again!

I had sort of the opposite experience a while back which helped me to understand my addiction or dependence a little better. I wasn't paying attention to which juice I grabbed and actually ended up vaping 0 nicotine for a few days. I was a little bit on edge but everyone survived so it wasn't that bad which helped me to realize I'm much more addicted to the hand-to-mouth in the action then I am the nicotine of course I didn't completely decide to start vaping 0 Nic but at least I understand myself better.

When I first went from vaping a small all-in-one device 2 using a mouth to lung RTA I got a bit of the Nic sick because I was chained vaping like I was used to doing however I was getting a lot more nicotine than I used to get. I was so excited about all my new toys that I didn't pay attention to the fact that I was doubling my intake. And since I didn't want to slow down on The Vaping I reduced my nicotine

Thanks for that post Ava - some useful info there. I started with 18 strength, have had the strength down to 11 for a few weeks now and done fine with it - I had actually bought some 6 strength stuff to use with this new outfit but didn't check when I grabbed a bottle of liquid out of the cookie jar where they live and ended up using the old original - a thing trust me I will never do again.

Back to the original tootle puffer outfit for me now!

The next day on I find myself amazed at how easily I manged to do this.

Being honest I've always been a bit blase about nicotine, thinking I'd found out all I needed to know by age 15.

I think I'll be a bit more cautious in my approach from here on in.

CDC:
- due to the severe case of nic poisoning reported lately we are planning to ban all squonk mods.

:smokie:

All joking aside, that's be the last thing I'd want to happen - as I pointed out in my piece the fault was mine ... This Old Ex Smokin' Man thought he knew all about his pal Nick O'Tine - and found he didn't!

I think many of us that started vaping back in the day when eliquids were much higher mg have had a brush with nic sick at one time or another. I know I had mine when I first started as pretty much everyone recommended starting with 12 mg so I did. Turns out that was about 6 mg too strong for me. I didn't get as sick as you just did but I did have a mother of headache for about 4 days before I figured out what was happening.

Now with most easily avaiable regular liquid being 3 mg it is far less likely to happen (nic salts excluded).

I started at 36mg 12 years ago. It was a struggle, but I have slowly cut down to 18mg a little at a time over those years. But I had to fly to NY a couple weeks ago, so I put 36mg in my pod system to use during the flight. I thought maybe I would feel the difference, especially because I also chewed 2 pieces of 4mg nicotine gum during the flight, but I did not. Of course I was not chain vaping on the plane, just taking a DTL hit every now and then and holding it in until there was no cloud to exhale. Maybe I would have felt something if I had vaped it in my regular setup and continuously DTL chain vaped it as I usually do.

While I don't find it strange that some found my post amusing as I tend to temper my posts with humour, I do find it odd/ strange that some have rated it "Optimistic" or "Creative" when in the middle of this Clusterferk, my wife, a highly qualified nurse and a Sister at age 24, recorded my BP at 205/108 and later as I was coming down at 184/106 ... this post, Kiddos, was for real and has but one intention - to make sure that this didn't happen to anyone else, who like me was a bit careless/ stupid.

I vape 12 mg in a MTL tank for quite awhile... short easy draws and never "chain vaping'. So finally got a RTA and had it setup for RDL and without a second thought put my 12 mg juice in it. It tasted so good and I was getting much more vapor than I was used to. That didn't last long! Nic sick (but I stopped sooner than your story) Now I got several 6 mg juices and doing fine. Also, I use my RDA for testing DIY flavors (often 12 mg for my MTL tank) Basically have to do really quick taste tests and even just do mouth only draws (I often test up to 6 flavors) I should just make 0 nic test batches but it's too much extra work.

I went through my cookie jar first thing this morning and took out all of the of 18 strength juices ( 6 offenders ) - these now I'll either only vape in tootle puffer aties at 6.8 watts or dilute them down

I'm still abit puzzled/amazed at this myself as I smoked unfiltered virginia cigarettes ( quite a lot of them!) before switching to a pipe around 1974 and like most pipemen I did inhale a fair old ammount of the smoke and my preferences for tobacco were ST Bruno Flake ( medium to strong ) and Condor Long Cut ( strong ).

Of course I have been vaping for over 4 years now though not normally DTL- ing so I'm away from all that, and I'm no longer in the first flush of youth which probably accounts for it hitting me so hard.

Either way - I'll be careful not to repeat the performance!

If you are used to chain vaping low nic juices, then 18mg could be a surprise buzz. Everything I read about metabolism of nicotine says that it takes about 30 minutes for your last hit to lose its effect, but an extremely high nic hit could take longer, with persistent effects.

I'm used to chain vaping 3mg juice. With high nic I have to watch it and space out my hits. I started 20 years ago with 24mg, but I've been at 3mg for years. That said, I always have a smaller bottle of 18mg around for the times when I want a little buzz.
