I can't remember the actual term for it, but it's a natural bias that most humans demonstrate as a means of validating their decisions. I know that I've been guilty of doing this for everything from olympic weight lifting shoes (Risto Sport rules) to computers (Apple is the coolest)...

Hopefully you haven't done that with politics.

I don't remember the name of this tendency either but it is why I have enjoyed this thread so much without giving any real input.

I just did a little bit of google. Really, this could be any one of a number of cognitive biases:
- confirmation bias
- post purchase rationalization
- ingroup bias

Check here for more:

Also, I think I've been pretty good at avoiding this when it comes to politics :)

Confirmation bias is the one I was thinking of. There is a study I once read that proposed we are hardwired to feel we, as individual humans, are better than other people. I can see how that also would relate to being a fanboy/girl.

I have seen mods on this site go overboard, but this is not one of those cases. All your responses in this thread have been clearly inflammatory. Most of the derailments that happen (such as food pictures) are meant to minimize the exact response you are trying to provoke.

It should be interesting to see how long your location is NC.

ETA - Just realized the other inflammatory remarks are in a different thread, lol.

Wow Bronze. What's been happening here? I see a couple of people in the Sin Bin.

I don't know Ms Robin. There is a virus running through new threads the past month or so. Either they get inundated with weirdness or nasty stuff. I don't know what is going on. Our mod jurisdiction does not include those threads so we are powerless to do anything about it. Glad to see Dust clean it up. If this thread is gonna go weird then I'll close it if Dust doesn't close it fist. We'll see where it goes.
